It is impossibe to get a collect call to any cell phone. Some times pay phones wont let you call cell phones.

I worked for SBC for a little while, and I had a customer once who had the exact same problem. Her son would call her all the time from prison (collect) and rack up inane amounts of charges on her bill. I think they had some sort of special system - because the charges were NOT the normal collect call charges. They were much higher. Does anyone know anything more about this?

Pay phones, like jail phones, aren't price-regulated. I once had to make a collect call home when my car broke down. I was about 15 minutes away. The 5 minute call showed up as a $40 charge from some unknown company.

1-800-Collect / Call-ATT is a lot cheaper. Reccommed either of those.
