Data Transfer question
Ok, so, yesterday, I noticed this little icon next to my signal strength disappeared. I think it has to do with data transfer because when I added that to my account, the icon turned on. I called CS and the rep told me that the phone turns that feature on and off as needed. I have had this phone (Motorola V400) for about a year and have always seen that icon on there. Sounds like austin316 answered your first call 😲
Where exactly do you live? Do you use a "partner" with Cingular or are you using their towers?

I have had a few Cingular reps tell me I live about 4 blocks from a Cingular tower. Service has been pretty good within the past year, with a few exceptions, but this is just weird how those icons would go away and no one can tell me why or offer any type of help.

first, the icon is the GPRS/EDGE indicator, meaning that the network is there to use if needed. (the E does mean EDGE, btw.)
if you leave the phone on 24/7, eventually your GPRS connection may time out. a simple powercycle of the phone should fix that.
the bars under the "E" dont mean a thing to my knowledge. they have always been the same color from what i have seen.

I've done power cycles and sometimes it'll come back, sometimes it won't. I have been able to connect without having those icons. Thanks for the help. Any other ideas? Should I even be worried about it?
