That is extremely old news, considering the Academy Awards were a few months back. Every year Academy Award nominees recieve gift bags and some sort of phone is always included in the gift bag. Considering this year's most hyped up, flashy, and unique phone was the RAZR it was only obvious that they would give this phone to the nominees. The nominees however did recieve the black version of the RAZR several months earlier than public release, due to the very fact of them being celebrities.
That little snippit in Cingular's recent news release is a very wise strategy, as a disgustingly large amount of people will flock to Cingular just to get their hands on this phone though. Would I call it a desperate grasp for new customers? ...
