I just got a text message from cingular it says This is a FREE MSG from Cingular: Take advantage of our improved network with a FREE new phone. Visit a store for details.
Do any of you cingular reps know anything about this offer? Is it ligit or not? Is there a new contract required ect... any info would be appreciated. thanks!

Well, if it is a free phone, then yes there is a contract required. I do not however work in a store, so I can't tell you anything else.

thanks cingular for proving us wrong. apparently you do send out random messages using the word free. Well to answer your question, yes, it is legitimate, and yes it would require a contract. If you currently have a phone and are eligible for an upgrade you would get an upgrade price. the free phone, USUALLY, is if you choose to add a new line of service to your acct, with a new contract. It may be that you're due for an upgrade, and in that case you may be eligible for a free or discounted phone, but again, contract contract contract! hopefully in the future cingular will contain more info in these messages!

Hopefully the future Cingular wont send out these messages.

We don't have any free phones at my store because we don't carry discontinued models and we follow the pricing guidelines for each month set by Cingy. That kind of crap will only confuse everyone in the long run.

My guess would be it is a solicitation message sent from the store you first purchased service from. We used to do the same thing.
