Cingular is trying to get all TDMA and Analog customer to have switched over to GSM by '07, which is interesting becuase DoCoMo is trying to get all of their customers off GSM by 2012 and they announced it in Nov. '04...

Briefly--NTT DoCoMo today announced that it will stop operation of its second generation cellular network in 2012. Currently 80% or 40 million DoCoMo customers are on the 2G network. While the company offers a host of 3G handsets [see archive], they are more expensive.

Because carriers are in a surefire hurry to lose millions on 3g NOW. LOL. Just look at Tmobile Europe.
