I wasn’t surprised what so ever, because verizon has been stealing market share from cingular ever since the merger happened, so that shows that people are being attracted towards verizon’s products then cingular’s, however, will that continue? I am not sure especially with cingular’s new launch of umts/hsdpa. As right now, verizon is the only one with high-speed data and as more and more carriers come out with it, whoever has the best product will win and will be very successful. We shall see, though and it should be interested in the next year or so as more and more products come out and to see where the customers decide to sign up. I am looking forward for it actually and can’t wait.

Yea, but Verizon being ahead in 3G deployment wasnt really that big factor in them doing so well. It was probably the 9.99 add-a-line that did a lot of it, versus cingular's 14.99.

DOnt get me wrong though, Verizon being so far ahead in 3G deployment is very attractive to business customer segment of the market, so it does help some. And cingular's going to remain pretty far behind there- last I hear, theyre only going to have their umts network in 15 to 20 cities by the end of the year. Verizon will have EVDO covering 150 million people by then. So I guess cingular's about a year behind there, maybe more. They probably wont have pretty good 3G coverage until 2007.

Again though, 3G isnt why Verizon had such a good quarter.

Yea, that would make sense, but their voice arpu was down, while their data arpu was up, which states that data services had a big deal in those numbers, but also the 9.99 could be another factor too.

Look at the statement that I put on the verizon forum from their web site and it talks about data services and things of that nature, more then it talks about data services. When your arpu declines and your data arpu increases it does prove that their data services enticed subscribers to join up, because high speed data right now is a very good differentiator right now because no one has a comparable product.

They broke it out in the Verizon press release... data is still only 7% of revenues. It matters, but its not the main driving force of why VZW is doing so well.

I do not care if data arpu is only a fraction of the revenue because that is a very important in this industry that will become saturated and yes, it does matter. Therefore, you said it was not the main reason why they did well; please state your evidence that shows otherwise. Thanks.

You caring or not caring does not make a thing so. Sorry, but data arpu is still small potatoes. Talk to me in a couple of years, and things may be different.

Far as 'evidence' goes, none is needed to even a casual observer. Its been stated by multiple analysts that Family plans are reponsible for more than 50% of all new subs in recent quarters. Now go down to your local cingular store. What will the sign say...

Because now he is gonna come back with some sort of figures that claims Sprint/Nextel is the best in the entire world. It happens every other day so just say something mean to him and he'll put you on his "ignore" list. Hahaha, half of us on this forum are on that list.

That’s not true because data applications and data arpu is extremely important because again as this market becomes saturated and it will then data arpu will be another revenue stream towards the bottom line and that means the carriers will have to differentiate themselves and come out with different data products that will entice data arpu. Once data arpu increases chances are regular arpu will increase also because more and more people will be using both services.

Anyway, I don’t care too much what reps say, because I care of what the company says as a whole such as what product does the best etc.

Sorry.

Sigh. If you continue to rely overmuch on armchair analysis while ignoring what the folks in the trenches are seeing, then youll always be wrong, my dear nexty. In any case, a wise man would listen to both.

Ah well. Your loss. 😉
