What's taxable unit value?
Hey everyone.. i just got a s710a.. and it says on the receipt it was shipped with.. that the taxable unit price is $319.89
what does that mean?
does it have anything to do with income taxes?
basically.. what's taxable unit value?
...
I'm guessing it might be the full retail price of the phone without discounts. I believe in some states, people have been asleep at the voting booths for so long that they elect people that tax them to death and beyond. This is one of those times where you have to pay sales taxes on something other than the price mutually agreed upon by two people. Pretty sad stuff.

it is the price that you pay taxes on. i'm guessing you bought it with a two year contract and the rebate is 100 dollars. it is like when something is free after rebate, you still pay taxes but you don't see the taxes back in your rebate. the full price is 399.99, you aren't paying taxes on the full retail price unless you bought it at that price, so the last response was way off.

well, that may be. I'm not familier with the price schedules and what not. I have heard that in some states, if I sign a 2 year contract and choose a free phone, I would have to pay the taxes on the full price of the phone, which would probably be around $100.

I think megs is right, as the $319.99 is actually the price of the s710 before rebates. In some states you have to pay taxes on the full price instead of the discounted price, which would be upwards of $400.

okay so... the phone is worth 399.99 retail value.. and the rebate is 100 dollars off...
but it was on sale for 250 and then 100 dollar rebate.. but i payed 250 until the rebate goes through..
well this is the info i got on my order thing.. it says
taxable unit value - 319.89 (about 320)
unite price - 249.99
total price - 249.99
and the tax was 24.16 dollars
total 274.15
what does the taxable unit value of 320 mean?
it has NOTHING to do with income tax? like.. i can't claim it in that right? i was just wondering
thanks for the help everyone 😁D

Why are you even messing around with the term income tax? That's a tax on YOUR income. Unless you own a business and are going to use it as a deduction. Personally, I would just use the $250 as a your deduction, it's only $70 and at 35% tax bracket, that's $25. A bit, but not worth cheating on your taxes and possibly paying fines and doing jail time.

as davidg4781 said in his first post. your probably in a state that doesn't consider discounted prices on an item because of a contract. the taxable unit value is the full retail price of your phone "no discounts or rebates included". your going to be taxed based on the full price of your phone before discount. think of it as prediscount tax. 😁
