my girl friend was with att then they went over to cingular. she still had an att phone but then the screen stopped working. so she takes her backup phone(from att) a nokia 6800 to the cingular store and they tell her she has to buy a cingular phone cuz the att phone wont work. is this correct? i thought that was a beneifit of gsm, the fact that you could just change the sim card. its not like its a tmobile phone, cingy bought out att so it should be all the same right? she said the csr said something about it being locked with a code? im lost in the sauce please guys any help is appreciated i offer my first born 😉 thanks!!!!

Yes the store was correct. You must use a Cingular or unlocked GSM phone with a Cingular sim card. While Cingular and AT&T are now one, the equipment is not interchangeable.

you could also try to find someone and pay to have them unlock the phone too.

if her sim is intact and okay, she should just be able to insert it and go, if she has trouble , call 1-866-293-4634 for gsm cust care attws side of cingular
