New Cingular 6230 Sim Card Problem

Yesterday afternoon I recieved my new Nokia 6230 from Letstalk.com with a new Cingular plan. The phone powered up and worked fine for quite a while. I had entered some numbers in the phone book and played around with it a little, mostly just browsing/familiarizing myself with menus. I made a couple calls to test it out. All was working great. All of the sudden last night before I went to bed I noticed the screen said, 'please insert sim card'. I cycled the power a few times and re-seated the sim card a couple times. Keeps saying the same thing.
Anybody have any ideas what could have happened? I'm going to call Letstalk's customer service when they open in a couple hours.
Thanks,
MG

Letstalk is going to overnight me a new sim card. Does anyone know if a sim card failing like that is common? Sucks that I probably just lost all the numbers I keyed in to it.
On the upside, Letstalk so far seems pretty good on the Customer Service end. The guy said if the new sim card doesn't work I can just return the phone for an exhange. No hassles so far.

Cingular apparently uses two different brands of sim cards. From what I've read/heard if one doesn't work then the other one usually will. I don't remember the two brand names offhand.
Yeah thats one of the bad things about sims. If they go bad you just lost your address book. So I've started saving all my numbers to the phone instead, by doing that you usually open up a lot more options in the phonebook that won't appear if you have everything stored to the sim.
My v551 has a nice option to copy all to the sim/phone at once instead of doing it one at a time. I also have the Motorola Phone Tools software to backup my phonebook to my computer via a data cable.. or bluetooth if I wanted to buy that adapter for my computer.

Yesterday all Activation sites were down all across the US... probably why you couldnt activate your phone. I had problems setting up a few phones yesterday and had to wait for this morning to get them up and running.

It was allready activated, I had made a couple of calls with it.. then all of the sudden, it started acting like there wasn't a sim card in it.

I too have a Nokia 6230. Mine does the same thing. Every once in a while it will just freak out and say insert sim. I usually just turn it off and back on and it is fine. I think that the phone has some issues, but none that I cant get over. I love it other than that. It may be the SIM card, but there is a good possibility that it is the phone too. Just thought that I would tell you because normally reps will say SIM and not even think about it being a phone issue becuase 9 times out of 10 it is. So if it happens again with the new SIM then do a warranty exhange on the handset.

You are welcome. And just so you know too, it doesn't happen to me often enough for me to replace mine yet. I have too much stuff on there to just replace it for something that only happens once every month or so, so I wouldn't be too worried about it if you dont want to mess with it. You have a year to see if it irritates you more.
