I don't think ATTW ever had a policy of giving out unlock codes regardless of the situation. I know your most likely speaking of Cingular's policies, it's just in the post before their was a little confusion as to when it was given out.

I don't believe they necessarily have to be out of contract -- at a minimum the customer must have had service with us for a minimum of 90 days before Cingular will entertain an unlock code request. One reason we might give a code out under those circumstances would be if the customer states s/he plans to travel internationally.

All of this is for legacy or new Cingular customers. Customers with legacy ATTWS phones cannot get them unlocked. Period.

Obviously I was not going to lie to our customer just to appease the rep in some fa...

1. I'm not in India or some other distant far off land.
2. former ATTWS customers are a part of the Cingular family. When orange reps talk about the conditions under which a Cingular phone can be unlocked, and a legacy ATTWS customer reads that, they may think that information pertains to them. It does not. Until you get 4-6 escalations a week regarding false expectations set by orange reps who make an assumption and convince the customer this applies to them as well, then you will understand why it is necessary to make that distinction.

Exactly. We can not give out unlock codes as we are not provided them. And no matter who they escallate to on the Blue side that code will not be provided.
