GSM VS CDMA
Verizon tends to pick pockets a bit more with their BT issues. But their Customer service and billing is excellent compared to Cingular. I give Verizon the edge in the people to people field and Cinhular the advantage in phone features.
I believe the post was directed at the technologies themselves, not the companies that use them.
🙂
The technologies are only as good as the Carriers operating them.
1. Voice clarity
2. Data speeds
3. Sim cards
4. Global use
5. Phone support
None of those things have to depend on the carrier. Voice clarity is better with GSM in general. Data speeds are better with CDMA in general. Sim cards are only widely available on GSM. GSM has a larger global presence. Phone manufacturers support GSM moreso than CDMA.
All of those things are what seperate the two technologies, and quite frankly none of them have to do with what carrier operates them.
6. Call capacity
Call capacity is better on CDMA. Still not something that is affected by the carrier.

Yes, but the question he asked was GSM or CDMA. Not Verizon or Cingular.
Step 1:
Ask your friends and co-workers who they use and their coverage quality in your area. Bad service in your market is a no brainer reason to not pick that provider/technology. If your phone doesn't work where you want it to, it doesn't do you much good after all.
Pick GSM IF:
-You do a lot of international travel and need your phone.
-You live in a Major Market and don't travel by road between major cities through "dead zones" much.
Pick CDMA IF:
-You're a heavy data user (particularly Sprint offers some of the best data packages I know of)
-You live or travel through non-major markets frequently
