I am an old Blue customer in north central NJ. Got a letter about “upgrading” to a cingular GSM phone. (the fabulous Nokia 6010 for free) Letter says on 9/3/05 my rate plan will change (they can change terms mid contract, but I can not unless I want orange plan and 2 yr agreement) to GSM America National 74.99 plan if I stick to old phone. They are dropping TDMA system obviously, but I long ago locked the S46 on GSM only. I like my old ATT plan, early nights and weekend, free incoming text, and a grand total of I think 1200 or 1300 minutes. My contract does not end until 3/06. The question to the forum-What should I do? I am considering buying an unlocked phone and putting my sim in it, because I actually do need a camera phone, and...

the reason they are trying to get you off an phone like that is becasue of the "consolidated network" this is happening especially with "gait phones" phone that work off gsm and TDMA now they are combining as 1 so this is going to affect customer that are on these multi network plans... or phones.. that is why... however if the company is switching your plan on you... than entitles you to be able to be let our of your contract becasu that is a meterial breach

actually if you consult your terms and conditions of service they can make changes especially if they give notice if you receive 30 days notice and you stay then you can been seen as excepting the terms.

Well first off you do not need to change your phone. you can just get them to re-enter your phone as a GSM only phone in thier systems then Provide them with only the IMEI. it then will not use the TDMA even if it wanted to and would act like a GSM only phone.

on the unlocked phone. yes any ATT branded unlocked phone will be able to use att's mMode internet [but get an mMode plan if your gunna be using it. very high charges with no plan]. as far as unlocked phones that are not Att branded yes those work as well usualy [but not always] you just have to talk to Customer care and get them to manualy guide you through the mMode settings and have you programe those into your phone to get it to work[repeat for MMS settings as well]....

One of the main problem with these phones are they do not see the GSM 850 band. Its great if you live in a 1900 only area but in most cases this phone only allows you half the coverage. Also some markets are totally doing away with TDMA coverage and roaming aggrements
