GoPhone Activation Kits

Hey All!

I have a spanish cell phone from vodafone and i just unlocked it.

I want to start using Cingular Gophone because there rates are good for me (.25c flat)and there service is great in my area.

I was wondering how much an activation kit costs in the cingular store, and what it comes with: Sim card, $$$credit, etc.

I can get a gophone sim card on ebay for like $10, but an activation kit with sim on ebay is like $20.

Thanks! 🙂

Actually all you'd need would be the new sim card -- just call 800-901-9878 to activate your new prepaid service and have the sim card number and IMEI number ready. Make sure you make the selection for customer service and not the one to activate a phone because the activation option will put you in a maddening loop with the voice response system. Cingular does not require an "activation kit" per se to activate new prepaid service.

BTW -- Cingular does not guarantee coverage for unlocked phones and tech support will also take a hands off approach should you ever need their assistance. 😎

Right now my phone is roaming on cingular, so i know exactly how their coverage is. Also, i have friends on cingular, and there service is just as good.

So do i need a cingular gophone sim card, or can I just get any cingular sim card (postpaid)?

Thanks!

Any Cingular sim card will work. There is no difference between sim cards for prepaid service and for postpaid service.

I think you already pointed it out, but you can get good deals on sim cards on eBay -- I personally bought one (although my service is postpaid) from a seller named "chrisandmarian" for about $11.00 including shipping which is less than half price of what it would have been from a Cingular store.

BTW -- if you do buy one from eBay make sure it is a 64K sim card and not the older 32K. I'm sure you wouldn't make this mistake but I've actually had customers buy used sim cards and then try to activate them -- only new cards can be activated.

you didn't mention the 10.00 worth of minutes that's included when you go to the store .. 😁
