I purchased an 800 minute package, with a $20 media works package (which included unlimited MMS messging, unlimited internet access) from Cingular in December 2004. Yesterday, I was having problems connecting to the internet (East Texas area) and the result was a case # being set up to trouble-shoot my problem.

Upon a call today from Cingular, I was told that the Media Works $19.99 plan that I purchased in Dec 2004 did not work on my cell phone (currently Audiovox SMT 5600)...and that I needed the $39.99 PDA Connect Unlimited Plan. Until yesterday, everything worked on my cell phone. They stated that the reason it probably quit working yesterday is that a random revenue audit determined that I did not have the correct plan (double the ...

Yes on all PDA's cingular is making everyone pay for the PDA connect package. Unless you sign up for the correct package u will not be able to access the Internet. The media works was not designed for PDA phones.

Then I am confused. Like I said, the rep stated that it had been "turned off" on their end to my phone...but...my internet access is still working on my phone. I don't want to "fix something that is not broke"!!!! Should I expect it to continue to work? Or should I expect it to quit?

And you connect at GPRS speeds as well. That is about 40 kbps or so, depending on the market.

Ok, but you were connecting at GPRS speeds.

It is the server for which your service connects.

Also, your phone only has GPRS capability. Any new PDA style phone will be limited.

You will also find with that plan you may start seeing overage charges if you are actually using the faster EDGE server (but still only getting GPRS speeds due to equipment limitations).

Either way, they know and have the right to charge extra.

I am actually an agent principal (or store owner). But this info isn't new. It has been posted here many times.

As they fine tune everything people using the wrong plans will get charged corrected rates. It seems they are letting people know (in your case) to at least give them a "just so you know" warning.

But I thought the 5600 wasn't edge capable anyways.

Further Info...

I originally purchased the $20 plan with a Z500a; I recently purchased the SMT 5600 and the internet connection works the same as with the Z500a...just a lot more capabilities surfing the net with the SMT 5600 (not limited to WAP network).

I talked with a Cingular customer svc rep...they stated that I still have the $20 plan (with the unlimited internet usage)...and as I've stated, it still works with my SMT 5600.

I still have the Z500a, so I guess if the question ever arises, that is the phone I'm using!?!?!?
