Will I be "forced" to switch?

My current AT&T contract ($39.99 650/unltd N&W and M2M) and phone (NEC525) are working just fine for me, and given a choice, I'd just as soon stick with what I've got for now. I'm sure that I'll eventually have to sign up with a Cingular contract and phone (or switch), but I'm just wondering if that'll something I'll have to deal with when my current contract expires.

They're not forcing switches just yet but you'll probably get letters in the mail "encouraging" you to switch.

From what I gather, they ARE forcing switches when AT&T contracts expire. Until then, they are honoring the AT&T Contracts.

I could be wrong, but from what I have read, this is what is going on.

Had a feeling this might be the case, as a co-worker who was also on an AT&T contract recently received a letter that seemed to push to point, switch to Cingular or find another provider. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what arrives in the mail...

I wouldnt count on being forced to switch. Just like with any plan, you are grandfathered into what you have. You will only lose what you have if you change your plan or service (this includes getting a new phone).
