exchange z500 for p207 or wait for 6102?

The deal: renewed my plan and got the Sony Ericsson z500 on 8/12.

The hitch: finding the z500 uncomfortable to use.

The solution?: I've been to a couple of Cingular stores and browsed. I like the Sam P207, and one store has it in stock. Rep at other location where I bought my z500 said the P207 has been recalled, and they're not selling it any longer. If that's the case then why do two other stores have it and are willing to sell it to me?

Is the P207 really flakey and recalled, or should I take my chances with it? If I do, and then have problems, will Cingular let me exchange it for a different phone?

My 30 day exchange window will be uo on 9/12. Do I dare risk waiting to see if the Nokia 6102 is out then?

Feeling lost. ☹️

Well, you must exchange the phone where you bought it, or at least with the same company (i.e. an agent chain or a company location).

The P207 has not been recalled. It is being discontinued due to lack of supply. The Nokia may or may not be out by then and no one really knows a date for sure.

I haven't had very good results with he p207. Customers arent really happy with the voice quality here in the Northern Cali Market. I would personally wait for the Nokia 6102. If it's not out the day before your 30 days is up, go exchange while you still can to get something different.

Oh and have the rep let you try the phones out. He might not be able to let you make calls on one, unless its a live bar store, but they can atleast pull one out and let you see how the menus and such funtion

I should have been more clear. I bought the Z500a at a Cingular brand store (actually a former AT&T store), and would return it to a Cingular store too.

I'm leaning towards believing that the p207 has been recalled. I'll wait to see if they are re-released with fix(es). If the 6102 is in stores before 9/12, then I'll take a look at it too. Otherwise, the Z500a is growing on me. Wish I could afford the higher end SE S710a. ☹️

The Samsung has not been recalled. It is having supply issues, period. If you decide to exchange you have to make sure who owns the store at which the original purchase was made. Most stores are branded Cingular, regardless of ownership.

The Z500 is a great phone, especially for the money. Once you get used to the menu I'll bet you want to keep it.

Ok, maybe I'm not using the right terminology here. I purchased the phone at a CINGULAR store, as in, it is an exclusive Cingular brand store. The people working there work for Cingular.

I've had two different reps at two different stores now tell me that they have been told not to sell any more P207's due to problems with the model. One said "recalled," the other said "pulled." Then there's this posting here:

Why do you say it's simply a supply issue?

My bad, we just got the recall notice today.

I was repeatedly told it was a supply issue and NOT a handset problem, even when posed the question of a recall rumor.

Not sure why there was a delay in Texas for issuing the recall but it has now been done.
