Is it true that only 2 year contracts are offered online when an existing customer wants to upgrade?

You can maybe call in and ask if they can change it. That's what they did with me. I'm not sure how they do it though, the day I called in (the same day I got the phone) the phone was on sale for $50 less. I'm assuming I would have had to pay $50 more to lose the year of commitment, but since the current price was $50 less, he kept the price I paid and just changed the term length.
