Best reception RAZR or wait for Nokia 6102?
I've been waiting for the new Nokia 6101/6102 to come out. I've heard that it is supposed to have the best reception of any phone Cingular has ever carried.
However, while shopping for an 850 version of the 6101 on eBay (since I will be paying full retail rather than upgrading my Cingular account) I noticed that the price is not much different than a RAZR which is quad band.
So, long story short, I live in rural Kansas and have previously been using a GAIT phone and plan. I know that my GSM coverage will not compare to my GAIT coverage, but my phone is all but finished, and I'd really like a flip rather than a candybar. What's my best bet for maximizing the reception available to me here? RAZR? Nokia 6101/6102? Or something comp...

The word "rural" in your statement made me cringe. I'm honestly going to say that service in your area may be completely horrible with a GSM only phone. Reception will vary somewhat, but not extremely between different makes and models.
Do you have any friends in your area with a GSM only Cingular phone? Be sure to find out if they're still using an ATTWS handset also, as the coverage areas aren't the same. In this situation first hand knowledge of your area is probably needed, especially since you're purchasing one at full price. If this were a contract you'd have your 30-day trial to find out what fits you best.

Cingular and Cellular One are the only companies that offer coverage in my area. (I'm about an hour NW of Kansas City). The GSM coverage in my little town is pretty good, most students and faculty at the college here have GSM phones and I've seen quite a few RAZRs being used on campus. However, according to Cingular's coverage map, if you go west at all, coverage disappears. My hubby will still have his Nokia GAIT phone for treks into the boonies, but I know that eventually (I've heard within the year) Cingular will shut off all GAIT access. I have no idea if that is true, and we still have a GAIT plan (the big reason I don't want a different contract) so I guess I'm just looking to make the best of a bad situation in my area. Thanks!

get the razr, not only is it good looking but the reception ROCKS!!!!! If people on campus are using it then you will be good as well! Also, if Cingular takes away gait access, they will replace it with GSM as they will not leave any customers stranded! Hope this helps!!
