Anyone been getting noise or static on the intial call.... hang up.. call back then the call is fine? I've heard alot of talk about the combining (cherry picking) of AT&T's network to be completed by October. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS!!!!!!! 😁

Static on GSM is an equipment problem, not the network.

I beg to differ, it's not that much eqmt probs in the world! It's the goings on of the combining of the network that Cingular is FAILING to inform us about!!!!! 👿

We can take a poll if you like...see how many people have actually experienced static with a digital signal. It just won't happen, even on CDMA. Analog is the technology that you have to contend with static on.

In all my experience with Verizon, Cingular, AT&T, and breifly Sprint, I have yet to encounter static problems.

Ruff I've told you before see it's not just me who hears it. Here in chicago most everyone I know will say the same when they use cingular they here breakup and what sounds like static maybe you have a different name for it since it's digital but it sounds exactly like static. It is really annoying too. I've had many people here that I know who use cingular for now compare a call on there cingular phone then I tell them to make a call on my verizon phone, they are amazed at the call clarity difference it really is noticeable

I too have experienced this problem, however, it is not exactly "analog static." The problem does not happen all the time, however, when it does happen, I simply can hang-up and call the person again (this does not meant that it is not annoying). I too am in the Chicago area.

Yes I know it happens I've both experienced and had friends complain about it. So now let me ask you why would you want to have to hang up and call the person back to hopefully have a static free call when you can just have verizon and never have to hang up?? Doesn't make sense right? You are from Chicago like me I don't know why you would have cingular especially here, verizon is at least 50% better in my opinion here in terms of call quality and reception!

Why not 100% better?

73% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Good point......
In my job, people use numbers all the time to say we're doing well or poorly. You can normally use the same data and twist it around to make it fit either way.

Do me a favor and turn a TV to a channel that does not have a station available (a station with "snow"). That is the sound of static, that is not what you would hear in a digital call. Any annoying "noises" in call is called a digital distortion, not static. There is a difference, and it's not static.

Better yet, turn to a dead station on a radio. Now THAT is static.

He's not talking about static in the normal sense, such as would be static on an analog phone, but the problem he's talking about I've encountered several times down here in Louisiana over the last few months. Actually I haven't had the problem the last couple of months so I guess it's been fixed. Apparently there is a connection problem in the lines or the switches that causes the problem. Hang up and call back and the line is fine after that. Don't know what it is but it's annoying.

Has anyone ever had an old 6340i that gave you the Satan voice? Sometimes they would get a bad connection and their voice came through to their friends as a VERY low pitched grumbly voice. I had a poor lady in here who thought her phone was possessed because of it...

🤣 I can see why. Hearing that on your phone is very disturbing.

It was always fun to talk customers down from that, and reassure them that swapping out their SIM card would correct the problem.

That's been happening to me (Northern Virginia), I called Customer Service, she filed a trouble ticket, and it was fixed.

Now, I'm Five by Five.
