So, I'm out of town all day and had no problems what so ever. As soon as I came back, bam! Signal's gone, can't make or receive calls for the life of me. I called, and they said there's no problems in the area (naawww, really?? phone's aren't working so they can't call in to see what's going on!). She sent a signal to my phone, I power cycled, and made a test call, that worked. She said, ok, if there's any problems, give us a call.
I stop to eat supper, go to return a call that I've been trying to do all day, and the same thing is happening again!. I call and get a "Call Failed" message. No, no network busy message, which would be understandable because of the recent events, but "Call Failed." And don't give me that that's the s...

Are you in an area where there were previously AT&T towers? That is the kind of thing that has been happening during Cingular's integration of the AT&T towers into the Cingular network. It happened where I live awhile back, but fortunately it only lasted one evening.
...
Not that I know of. AT&T wasn't around until right before the merger. It was mostly Cingular though. I can understand if the signal was usually crappy, then today it's gone, but it's usually pretty good. It's gone now, and there's not even anyone I can let know about this!
...
Wonder if this would be a breech of contract? I understand service isn't guaranteed, but, when everyone's having problems like this, and they're apparently aren't doing anything about it, or they're not open to even report it, that could be negligence. Why should I have to pay to use my phone on Sat and Sun if I can't use it?
...
You're right, service isn't guaranteed, so they won't let you out of your contract. I would still call Cingular, whether the problem is resolved or not, and they may credit you for the days that your service was not available.
...
Cingular's not open right now. I'll call Monday. I understand service isn't guaranteed, but that's more to protect them from someone driving through a tunnel, going under a bridge, going out to some far off land. Not to allow them to shut down towers all over a town, or not fix them in a timely manner. At least they made a note of this problem, not just sending an update to my phone and letting me go.
I don't know why though, but when they do that, or send a signal, like they did today, it works while I'm talking to them. They probably retract their trouble ticket. Then, a few hours later, it goes down again, and they're closed!
...
I'm quite sure that service not being guaranteed due to maintenance to enhance the network in your area is not a bad thing. I agree that it would be frustrating not to have service but I don't believe the network is simply having issues. They're either integrating blue towers into the local network, or tweaking the orange towers that are already there. If it lasts into tomorrow, then it will be something to be concerned about.
...
Well, when I called, they said there is no report of any problems in my area. I have called in the past, and they have told me they're upgrading stuff and it should be up shortly. A case like that is fine. Maybe I'm just frustrated with it all. Who knows.
...
ok i have read some of these posts and they are rediculous, i can understand if you have a problem with a p[hone or network, and if you have a "bad apple" meaning reps sorry t hear i know how you feel, but
" i shouldnt have to pay for service on saturday and sunday if i dont have service"
i dotn thin anyone in here if you dont use your tv for 1 day do u call the company asking for crdt no.... didnt think so.... this is "real life" i think some people forget about that
...
No, but if the cable goes down for more than a day, in my experience, they give a credit for that time period. They have to. If they don't, they can be held liable for breaching of the contract. Problem is, the dumb masses don't have the slightest knowledge of contract law.

RUFF, I thought you lived in Pittsburgh....I don't remember this happening to my phone anytime in the recent past. Did I miss something, or did this just happen one of the times I was out of town on business?
...
It was an extremely brief timeframe. I'd say one evening probably between 6 and 9 and then the problem was resolved. I was in Irwin when it was going on, so it may not have actually been happening in the city.

Oh, Ok, now it makes more sense....
Hey, guess what....My damn RAZR needs replaced again....it won't charge. I keep getting an error "Unable to Charge." This, in addition to the fact that the browser and messaging keys were not working anymore.....I guess I have to go through this wondering if the warranty replacement process is going to get screwed up again....fun stuff.
Maybe I should just switch to my 6230 and never use the RAZR again....what do you think???
...
Motorolas are notorious for cheap charging ports. You'll probably have the same problem some time down the road even if you do get it replaced again. I'd reccommend just about anything (other than LG) over a Moto.
...
Yeah....my only problem is that I lost my charger for my Nokia 6230 while I was moving. So I am kinda stuck using the RAZR until I either find the charger for the Nokia or until I break down and buy one -- which I don't want to do because I know it is in this new house somewhere.
I didn't think there were problems with the RAZR charging port since it had the USB charging port....
Question: How do I get my ringtones from the old RAZR to the new one when it comes in? I forget cause it has been so long since I have had to do a replacement with Cingular.

Well, it's Monday. Service is still sucky, but calls can come and go. I just can't understand a word they're saying.
I called Cingular and asked if they had any problems reported or any upgrades being done. They said, nope, everything was fine over the weekend. I told them what had happened and when I was leaving town this morning I still could not use my phone. He said, since you're on it now, I cannot do anything. I said I'm only on it because I'm in another city going to school. He said I'll have to go back to my town and call from a land line to have anything done so that he can trouble shoot my phone. I told him my phone has nothing to do with it because about 5 others, that I know of, around town were having the exact same p...

And the kicker. Now my home phone doesn't work. Maybe I touched something that keeps phones from working. No, nevermind, because everyone around town that I've talked to with Cingular is having the same problem :-|

THE SAME DEAL WAS HAPPENING WHERE IM AT TOO. I WOULD HAVE NO BARS OR IT WOULD ONLY LT ME CALL MY GIRLFRIEND WHO IS ON MY FAM SHARE PLAN, IT WOULDN'T LET ME CALL LANDLINES OR ANYBODY ELSE. SO I CALLED CINGULARS AFTER HOURS LINE AND WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS THE WERE UPGRADING THE NETWOK. IN LIKE 2 DAYS IT WAS ALL CLEARED. THE TECH TOLD ME THEY WERE GETTIN READY FOR 3G IN MY AREA AND I LIVE IN THE CAPITAL OF PA. 🙂 😁
...
I tried calling after hours, stayed on the phone waiting for them for about 20 minutes, then gave up. I hope they're doing some good stuff around here. They should let customer service know though, so when I call in, saying I've talked to 5 people in the area and none of their phones are working, their reply isn't, everything's fine, maybe it's YOUR phone.

It's happening to other phones in the area.

It definetly isnt just you, I live here in Atlanta, Ga and SAME thing about a month ago! Long Story short, they did the powercycle stuff, I called twenty times, phone down for 6 days, I got credit for 6 days, tried different sims, SAME PROBLEM! They sent me a new phone, however I cant be sure if this fixed the problem or was it fixed on its own. I think it just fixed itself! Like someone said before, if your integrating the towers and making ready for HSPDA OR UMTS fine! JUST LET CUSTOMER SERVICE KNOW so we're not in the dark!!!!!!!!! Friggin ridiculous! Now that I'm done venting... They're just doing work in your area that's all... Just have to deal with and get credit... and be happy knowing good things are about to take place!!!!! 😢...

So, I call Cingular again, around 7pmish. I ask if there's any problems in my area and YES! there is! At least they know about it. She read the memo to me, all over town, since Saturday, people have been having problems. They've been calling in, and reps were just saying it's a phone issue. Lame. Anyway, they finally know about the issue and are (hopefully) working on it. Took them three days though, but, oh well, hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
