6230 Gone?

Talking with a seemingly knowledgeable Cingy store rep yesterday he told me that the Nokia 6230 has been completely discontinued due to a "severe fatal software flaw" that is "unrepairable". His store didn't have any and could no longer get them either. Anybody have information about this???

They have been pulled from the shelf, but I dont think its because of a software flaw. The original one did have bluetooth and data connect issues, but I think they corrected that when they released the ENS version.

it was a software flaw, but not a fatal one. it only occurres on the ENS versions. i guess the easy fix would be to sell them with the non-ENS software, but that's too easy.. 😉

the nokia rep told me it was "freezing" they took about 3 from the different stores and could not replicate the problem. So for the time being it is discontinued. if they find the flaw they will fix it an re release the phone.

Right I believe we'll be offering the 6230i as it was a very popular phone.

No, it was the Samsung P207 that had that fatal flaw. But yeah, I talked to my Nokia Rep and he said it was a goner. I begged him to bring it back and he said he would let the company know I want it back hehe.

Hasnt the 6230 been replaced by the 6230i? I know Cingular hasnt picked it up, but it's posted on the Nokia website. Also, does anybody know for sure (and can provide supporting evidence!) what this flaw in the 6230 is? I have one, and have never experienced anything other than minor, temporary problems that were easily corrected by customer service. Plus, all the RAE's in my area carry one too. I'd love more info on this.

a few weeks ago we received communication to immediately stop selling the 6230, and to send the remaining stock back. it was due to a lock up issue. also on the new price list it is listed as discontinued. in my personal opinion as a front line rep, the 6230 was the phone i saw the least number of returns on. until the last month or so, where every one i sold came back. I would be willing to bet that rather than fixing the issue, they are just going to replace it with the 6230i, which is supposedly PTT. however as a sales rep I have no positive answer.

Then what would be the replacement phone? And what would they do if it is still under warranty and it breaks?

Customers in our area are getting the option of either a V551 or an S66. Most are choosing the V551. I have a pre-ens 6230, and treat it like gold, I love it. I will be getting a 6682 in a little bit.

I had a pre-ens version, but I was having issues with static in my calls, so they replaced it and now I think I have an ens version. But the static is still there. I use my RAZR most of the time because of this.

OK, that sounds good, but what if I don't want anything but a Nokia?

I am only asking this because I have friends that have had nothing but problems with the v551, and Siemens doesn't have that good of a reputation either.

For the most part my experience with XBM has been they will only exchange with what they have in the distribution center. I have seen customers scream enough to get other phones, but it hasn't been easy. For the most part they stick pretty true to the rules of like model exchange.

OK, thank you very much for your help. I guess I am just going to be stuck with a 6230 that gets choppy calls and shuts itself off, because I don't want it to be replaced with another phone that has known issues.

Thanks again.

That is the model that Cingular replaced the 6230 with, but lockline will not follow suit, or they didn't as of a week ago.

Insurance is replacing that phone with Motorola V551. My friend did a claim, and that is what they offered him. He was livid. That phone isn't even comparable. If I wanted a flip phone, I would have bought one, ya know? If I wanted a Motorola, I would have bought one. I carry a nokia for 2 huge reasons, and most likey will not purchase another brand. As soon as he told me this information, I cancelled my insurance. He went on e-bay and bought one instead. They did offer him one other option after a bunch of arguing, and it was a siemens, I dont even remember which model. Just some usefull info for those with the 6230 that have insurance.

The Siemens S66 is a way better choice than the 551. It's still a bar phone and has more features, more comparable in my opinion.

Siemens phones are perfectly fine. They just aren't making any new ones :-)
