Question on a phone.
My sister is having problems with her phone and does not have phone insurance. Sometimes her phone works properly, sometimes it doesn't. More recently it hasn't been working more often than it has. Instead of buying another feature-packed phone that she doesn't want, she just wants to get a simple flip and doesn't want to have to shell out a lot of money for it.
My question is:
If she buys a GoPhone kit with the LG 1300 included, can she use the phone with her current SIM card? Or does Cingular have GoPhones locked with seperate codes to only allow the prepaid SIM cards included in the kit?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance. 🙂

you could purchase a gophone kit and just use the sim card that is in the current phone -- we'd never know the difference

Good. I assumed that you would be able to, but it just seemed to easy. I wanted to make sure before she went and spent the money on something she couldn't use.
Thanks so much! 🙂

I think the Motorola V173 will be launching soon for GO, at a lower price than the 1300 and probably better reception. Don't know much about it though.

Technically speaking the store selling the handset is required to activate the phone and have you pay the first month service (or activate the starter kit for PAYG).
It is in our agent agreement that we would be penalized should those IMEI numbers show up on non-Go Phone accounts.
You may run into that issue if you get a properly educated rep. The phones are subsidized and not available for use as you describe.

That is true, however it is possible to purchase a GoPhone, get it activated with the sim that comes with it, then just place the sim that is in the current phone into that phone -- not saying it's not against policy, but it is possible....just by placing that current sim card into the phone, you'd already be good to go -- you wouldn't have to call customer care for anything because that sim is already registerd for that current phone # on the post paid account

That option is just fine, except that you have now paid for the first month of service and erased much of the savings of the handset in the first place.
The V173 and T290 (SE) are the only two phones that are ONLY Go Phone. Otherwise you can get a cheap handset for the no commitment price at a similar price without the hassle.

yeah...gotta think about the mula

Target stores sell the kit and do not activate any of their prepaid phones. Just thought I would mention that. Although ,thanks for the input!
Also, Cingular has agreed to replace her phone seeing as it was under warranty and there is no physical damage to the phone.
