Cingular Actually Has 51.4 Million Customers, Not 51.6M?...

Just thought it was kind of odd... how do you think you have 200,000 customers that you really don't? What kind of reporting software are they using? 😕

Not because it was discussed on this forum, but beause if you're reading this forum you likely have seen the Cingular press releases at some point this week.

Come on Jake, I thought trolling was beneath you.

BTW, the numbers correction is old news since it happens to all carriers, including Verizon (they had to restate numbers many times after their latest merger).

The article is simply reporting on something that Cingular themselves announced they were doing. Is Cingy then trolling themselves by making such an announcement? Whoa.

When they say "customers," do they mean 51.4 million account-holders or 51.4 million lines of service? Also, do Go Phones count towards this number?

Not an expert in that area, but my assumption is that its lines of service, and that yes, prepaid customers do count in the total.

If someone has different information, please share.

I heard something about subscriber id probs with the pay-as-you-go go-phone customers in some areas, but i dunno if this is why. the numbers would seem to match up tho, and thats a devision i can see a problem in subscriber counting

That does make some sense. Due to the intrinsically higher churn rates in prepaid, it is probably harder to keep an accurate count there.
