My friend's T-mobile phone bit the dust. My other friend had an old Cingular phone lying around. So, we stuck the T-mobile sim card in the Cingular phone just for the heck of it...and it works!

How is that?

It must have been unlocked. Possibily a Nokia phone a sales rep was messing with before it was sold.

The Cingular phone that the T-mobile sim is in now is a Motorola v400 ordered from Amazon. The T-Mobile phone is t-mo's version of the v400 (forgot the model).

You shoulda mentioned Amazon. They carry unlocked phones. They musta run out of the Cingular locked ones and sent you an unlocked one instead.

Is she using a Cingular phone or a Cingular SIM? You said she put her T-Mobile SIM in a Cingular phone.

If they purchased the phone from amazon then it would be unlocked, so thats why it worked without a problem. If they purchased that same phone from a Cingular store, telesales or cingular.com, it would be locked.

Sorry guys. I'm feelin under the weather, trying to study for a test, and didn't get much sleep. It is a T-mobile SIM with a Cingular phone.

Guess I answered my own question. T-mobile is going to be able recognize her phone usage I guess, right?

Amazon does not carry unlocked phones. They buy their handsets from Cingular distribution (which is who locks them) the same as any other store.

All V400 handsets and many V551 handsets were unlocked pre 11/04.

Ok, but not available with activation.

That offer is also available at any Cingular store.
