Musings From a Cingular Customer Service Rep

As a customer service rep for Cingular, I am certainly not asked my opinion about our business practices, but I do spend all day everyday with our customers (and most people don't call CS because they are happy) & here are my humble suggestions for bringing our quarter numbers up.

1) The automated phone system is just nasty. Hey guys, it isn't working for our customers. They are mad before they even get to us. Trying to navigate through our system is truly a trip through Dante's fiery inferno. And the nasty music has to go, it is giving me nightmares. Let's do something brave and daring and install a reception dept with real people to route the calls to the correct department.

2) It is the dream of all large corporations to get c...

About #7:

I do it and will continue to do it until Cingular treats all contracts the same. I get paid HALF on an upgrade compared to what I get on a new activation yet I still have to worry about that ****ing 6 month chargeback period.

My store is a Direct Dealer. Imagine how much worse it is for an Indirect Dealer.

I feel your pain. Yes, Cingular should give the same commission for migrations as they do for new accounts, and perhaps it would be business savvy to give the store reps a bonus for migrations. They can definitely be more work and retaining customers should be a priority. At least these customers pay their bill regularly and we do love that.

As a direct dealer, I don't do #7. If I did, they'd be paying $36 in activation fees instead of nothing (it's free to migrate in my market) as well as getting a new number. There's also a fresh credit check if it's done as a new activation. It's hard enough to get them to migrate over without subjecting them to all that.

That being said, I don't service ATT handsets. If someone has a problem with one, I advise migration or ebay. If they have a problem with their account, they get the Blue CS number as I have limited access to all but converted accounts. I will never tell them to order a replacement phone via CS, unless they are a Blue Business customer.

1.Agree. Worst in the business.
2.CS ratings are deserved.
3. Sforsyth claims Cingular is not concerned with bringing on new customers..( and he is MBA bound)

4. Amazing but true.

5 ATTWS customers got royally screwed, But the smart ones are getting more for their money with Verizon now. Week end CS, much fewer droppped calls, professional happy reps,I'd see no reason to stay with Cingular either.

6. You won't have to. Most of the ATTWS customers will port out soon enough.

7. And Radio Shack is one of the answers for that?

Next quarter maybe 500k activations. Increased churn. But hey you got data.Others can make reliable calls and get data. When is Cingular gonna have That feature.

If you are going to quote me all over this board, at least get it right!!!!! What I said was net ads is not the company's main focus right now. Their main focus is the upgrade to UMTS/HSDPA, the integration, and making the company as a whole financially stable.

I NEVER SAID THEY WERE NOT CONCERNED WITH IT!!!! I said it wasn't their top focus right now.

And I'm not MBA bound....I already have it (and not from the dime a dozen school that you attend, I got mine from a real school....your cracker jacks box doesn't count, buddy). Let me know when you finally graduate 3rd grade.

Idiot 🙄

Nothing but an immature idiot. You make Nextel18 look like a God. I have a new-found respect for him now. At least he has numbers and sound business concepts to support his claims, no matter how wild they seem. And he makes sure that when he quotes someone, he quotes what they actually said, not what is easiest for him to bash.

You just fly by the seat of your pants and hope you don't get burned. Then backpedal and misquote people in a feeble attempt to gain ...

I'm not looking for any support from him. I am simply pointing out to you how bad you really look.

Just go to the Verizon forum and troll around there. There is obviously no getting you to comprehend anything.

I love you, nextel18. Thank you for the info on how each carrier did in the first 2 to 3 Quarters. You always provide us with interesting facts. Kudos to nextel18!!!!!

And so you should. I do not believe opinions are all fact based nor should they be. They are only opinions not debate points and based on supposition and personal interpretation of factual information as applied to one's own situation.

For instance:

In a construction worker's opinion rain sucks. In a farmer's opinion rain is good. Both opinions based on personal fact. Each just as valid. Other will agree or disagree according to their own truths and experience regarding rain.

There is no crime in someone "saying no to your reasoning" In fact should not need to seek valid...

I feel sorry for ATTWS people. This whole merger has been a headache for everyone, including Cingular. I wish ATT would never have sold themselves to Cingular. It would have made everyone's lies a lot easier.

They didn't sell themselves to Cingular, they put themselves up for sale to the highest bidder. Vodafone was unwilling to shell out as much money for ATTWS.

I stand corrected. Well I guess ATTWS figured that unless they sold themselves to another carrier that they would not be able to stand on thier own and maintain their successes at being a decent carrier. I do know that their CEO was always thinking about the future of the company ever since ATT weaned them (ATTWS) from the main company.

Today I saved a picture of an ATTWS logo to my unlocked Nokia 6200 IM phone, since it originally was an ATTWS phone. I like ATTWS logo. I kind of wish that SBC and Bell South would have choose to keep the ATTWS name and logo, but would that have brought on a lawsuit from the orignal ATT company or something?! (I don't know, I am just guessing)

Right it would have brought a lawsuit.

But ironically, SBC bought AT&T not too long ago.
