i've posted a number of times that it works very well. my results are an average of 4 seconds for initial connect, and then volleys are almost instantaneous (half a second lag to the naked ear)

It is nationwide, how do you think they tested it? All the area managers, and above are using them. And have been since the beginning of the summer.

18,

I have a working LG F7200 on Cingular's PTT service. It works well but occassionally they take they PTT network down. Don't forget, National launch is November 10th.

Cingular's latency with PTT is minimal. It is just as fast as Nextel. The first time you connect with a new member it takes about 2 seconds then it is instantaneous. I was surprized. Yes, it makes the same chirp as Nextel.

I like the fact that you can have up to 6 people on at one time. Haven't tried it yet, since I know only a handfull of people that have it. There is no direct connect number. Your number is your PTT number.

I also like the option to go from PTT to a cellular call. The pricing is nice.

One might argue the lack of compatibility with Nextel. O...

thanks... nice analysis... i think it will be better when it will come out as a nationwide basis on november 10th... i dont like that it is on voice though, becuase it could impact push to talk if the voice channels are clogged and overwhelmed. (on the tower or nationwide)

" I also like the option to go from PTT to a cellular call."

this is whats cool...

the problem is, could this swing cingular's lack of subscriber growth, or yet declining of subscriber growth or is it too late? whats your opinion? remember their sub growth has been declining since quarter 1 of this year.

18,

I am optimistic about Cingular's PTT. I think what will be impacted most in subsciber growth is the B2B channel. The fact that Cingular has delayed the launch of PTT for 2 years demonstrates that they are serious and they want it to work unlike the flops of Verizon and Sprint. Reday-link is ok but.....

It is this customer base that Nextel has florished from. I do a lot of outside sales and where my store is located in the Dallas market, Cingular corporate slaes team just doesn't make the drive out here. This is good for me.

I am in Bridgeport, TX. This is oil and construction company area. Nextel works shaky at best. Imagine the convince of PTT in conjunction with Cingular's large network. I have numerous Nextel customers ready ...

quite interesting speculation.

yea, cingular's target market MUST be to the business sector. they must try to take some market share from sprint-nextel, but there is a problem, sprint-nextel has announced that they are seeing growth in the prepaid and the governement and business sectors for their growth in the future.

well, readylink isnt a great ptt service as it is anyway, but when rev a comes, it will improve drastically. the problem is, ready link isnt that great, but what about qchat? that will def. destroy any push to talk solution out there. (by the way qchat is exclusivly licensed to nextel)

large network? well verizon and sprint both have large markets and well we saw what happened to them with their lack of push to tal...

18,

I think my rep would have a better indication of where our churn comes from. It is in fact mostly from AT&T subcribers. I value your opinion, but is negated that you are not affiliated with Cingular. You are resourceful, but this info is straight from the horses mouth.

Sprint's net gain is significant. However they approve everyone. I wish Cingular was capped at a 150 deposit. Or 250 if you have a written off account with them. Nextel has also lowered their their credit requirements. It use to be zero, 500 dollars, or we didn't want you. Now it is 50, 100, and if memory serves correct Nextel also maxes out a 250 dollar deposit.

None the less, I applaud their net numbers....

Back to PTT and subscriber again. I think PTT and t...

"" think that Sprint-Nextel will have the same problem. "" what you said and i want to add a little bit to that...

this is an article from the wall street journal online, and i will NOT post the whole article becuase i am a member while you arent... anyway the headline reads "Sprint Nextel Posts Profit; Merger Boosts Revenue" and http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/051026/earns_sprint_n extel.html?.v=8 "Sprint Nextel Sees Profit After Merger" ....

so it seems like the merger is being a strong catalyst and your statement is false..

I love your whole post. But something to remember is, with all the integration issues, cingular hasn't really been pushing for new activations. They are focusing on getting the network integrated, then when thats done, it will allow them to build more sites, and focus on capturing new and retaining old customers more effectively.

It might still boil down to price points. If you can get a simple Cingy plan and add unl PTT mins to it for $5 or $10 per mo, that's a good deal. Especially compared to Sprint's ReadyLink (crap) for that amount of money. We all know the subs on the Nextel end have been taking a hit on pricing due to their PTT solution being uncompromised. The first thing I see happening is Sprint losing the Ford Motors account they beat out Nextel for to Cingy. Sprint laughed all the way to the bank beating out Nextel for the service, now, why not switch them to the Nextel side? Bottom line, I think it forces Sprint-Nextel into an ARPU battle.

interesting...

yea, the way that sprint has been advertising that ford commercial makes me think otherwise. in fact, their business, and goverment sector has been responsible for a lot of their net ads and they are seeing that in the future for their growth.. (they are including prepaid but we arent talking about that now.)

arpu battle? not so sure.. their arpu is around $66 the next competitor is wayyyy under $60s... there havnt been an arpu battle with sprint and nextel seperately becuase their arpus are number 1 and number 2 by far in the industry and will continue to do so...

the next situation will be about new products and data....

time will tell.

but thanks for the sound opinion. 🙂

Thats because cingular isn't pushing to get new subscribers while they were migrating the networks (which will be done nov 17). Once that's done, expect a full force ad campaign just in time for christmas 🙂

Just the opposite... PTT on Cingular will be just like Nextel, one channel. It's not designed to have both parties speaking at once. So, a voice call will use 3 channels, PTT will only use one. That will free up others for the regular voice customers...
