Hello all newbie here to moonscape. Very good site. 😎 😎 😎

Currently I'm on a contract with Cingular till November 2006 and I'm using a Nokia 6010 (a GoPhone, I bought from Wal-Mart, which I simply slipped my SIM card into) due to my crappy Moto V551, which I used to love but currently hate 😈 . Just not functional anymore. Can't get a signal in my apt with the Moto & Cingular's logo rarely stays on the Moto screen. But get full signal using the Nokia 6010.

So I'm looking at the phones that are currently in Cingy's lineup. And I'm aware that I have to pay full price and all that jazz, but of these choices which would any of you recommend:

1. Samsung e317
2. Nokia 6102
3. Samsung D307
4. Sony Ericsson S710

Personal...

The s710 is the highest rated phone Cingular currently offers and it consistently recieves extremely high ratings across whatever reviews you may find. It has the most advanced features of all current Cingular phones, and is rather attractive looking.

The s710 will give the best reception you'll ever see in a phone, and that is no exaggeration.

I'd suggest going for the Sony Ericsson. You'll love it.

I usually agree with your posts for the most part Ruff, but I think it should be stated that with any phone, RF will vary from different parts of the country. Having said that, the RF on the s710 where I live at was quite possibly the worst of any phone I've owned. It was utterly pathetic. The Nokia 6682 provides the best reception I've ever had in a phone. He may want to consider the 6620, which would be less than the 6682, but still a GREAT phone, loaded with features.

RF must solely depend on the part of the country you live in, because, here in Pittsburgh, PA, where RUFF and I both are from, the S710 is quite possibly the best phone for reception across ALL carriers.

The OP should try i...

Just take a look at the reviews between the two phones on any site...

On this site for example:

s710 holding a 4.34 out of 5 based on 90 user posts.

6620 holding a 4.28 out of 5 based on 49 user posts.

The s710 has a higher rating and that is based on almost double the amount of reviews. So which does it look like comes out on top?

Granted they are both excellent phones, I am telling you that you will be hard pressed to show me a phone better than the s710. Perhaps you were using a bad (which is extremely rare) handset.

Not doubting the reviews. But the 6682 is a better phone. Everyone where I live at, meaning the people at my local Cingular store, says the same thing about the RF of that phone. Its awful here and I had 4 and all had the same problem. The V551 has much better reception here. So thats why I think it has something to do with the part of the country you live.

I'd say it would be moreso the part of the country where you live. Those reviews clearly show that the s710 is superior to most others, even the 6682. And I'm quite sure all 90 of those reviews aren't from the Pittsburgh area.

What part of the country are you in?

I live in Georgia. I've personally the Sony and the 6682 and the 6682 can do much more. I would say if you live in a big city the Sony has great reception. Its the fringe areas where the Sony gets hammered on reception.

Ever try having your V551 serviced? Now that you have tbhe 6010 you could send it directly to MOTO.

Your V551 should still be under warranty.

Well, the S710 is in a completely different class. That is like comparing a Mercedes to a Honda. The 6102 is nice but is also $200 less than the S710a (before rebate).

Yeah, that's very true. I dont know who would drop their s710a to a 6102 that has nothing to offer.
