Ok reps I have a dumb question -- don't know if it's me or I'm just going braindead bc its almost the weekend, or what, but lemme ask this. If we suspend a phone by adding the lost/stolen restriction on there, does that block the sim only? The phone can still be used if say the person that stole it put their sim into it right? It doesn't block the IMEI? Geez I tell ya I know I already know the answer, but I just can't think straight. Thanks in advance!

Yes that is correct. IMEI numbers cannot be blocked.

I never thought that IMEIs could be blocked either, but not I think differently, at least if they are placed in the system as an IMEI on a new account, or quite possibily existing, as opposed to simple switching of sim cards. I had a customer come in with a "customer owned"
phone and wanted it activated to pay as you go. I activated, he paid airtime, placed test call and he left. A little bit later he came back in and it was routing him to fraud department when he tried to place a call. I got on the phone with fraud and they stated that he had to fax in a reciept that shows that the phone was in fact purchased by him to have it taken off suspend. I was very surprised by this.

I wish that was done more often, like th eold days. ESNs were blocked and could not be used, granted this was analog.

I remember reading in the training for GSM that when a call is placed, it validates the IMEI before passing it off to a tower to see if the IMEI is stolen.

Shouldn't reporting these IMEI's be something they've told us how to do? We had a break in earlier this month and lost over $8,000 worth of phones. I'd love it if no one could ever use those phones.

Caleb,

They can use those phones. Unless the IMEI is changed in POS or telegence, or...., someone can carry a stolen phone all day long. I had a similar instace at Best Buy when a couple of MPX220's were "lost."

I tried to do an IMEI search trough clarify, snooper, telepos, telegence, and no luck.

Now, if they have a warranty issue or file an insurrance claim they are busted.
