Blasted Cingular!

So, Cingular tells me I can cancel early and only pay $50/line in ETFs. I called about 5 different times to confirm this and all said yes. I guess the reason they did that was because they knew it was their problem in my area that they couldn't fix in a timely manner. I did offer to pay the profits they're losing from me leaving, to which they declined.

I get the bill today. Kind of. I logged into my account and saw I had a balance. A fairly large balance. I haven't gotten an email saying my statement is ready nor have I received the paper copy.

Yup, you guessed it. I'm being charged $150/line that I canceled. Do I have a chance of getting the credit? I'd normally tell them to pound sand and I'm not going to pay it. I offe...

Yeah, have someone read the notes on your account. If the $50 per line is there you are gold.

Oh and BTW, the $150 IS there losses based on the original handset subsidy.

When I canceled, they had someone come over and approve the $50. Why didn't it stay?

That could be the case, about the subsidy, but don't other changes to the account trigger a 2 year contract which is charged $150 for ending early? I heard if you add a line to a family talk plan, it's automatically 2 years (I could be wrong, that may be with Sprint's stuff). Also, if I am wrong, and I purchase a phone on a one year contract with a $75 discount. If I cancel early, to I get charged $75 or $150? If it's $150, that just solidifies the case that it's a penalty and not really to cover any loses. It's also not stated in the contract what loses that fee covers, which pushes it towards the penalty realm.

Very few changes to Cingular accounts result in extention of contract other than equipment discounts. One example would be:

Out of contract or within last half of contract - If you had a very old rate plan with NO FREE mobile to mobile and still had to pay roaming; switching to one of the new plans would require at leat a one year agreement. Consideration on the part of Cingular to require an ETF is the FREE MTM (it could be added for $9.99 per month) and removal of roaming charges.

Most customers don't have to worry about having their agreement extended while in contract because they already have the better plans (I always offer at time of upgrade when the agreement is being extended anyways).

Simply switching to a plan with more...

Well, this is what happened. I had called and talked it down to $50/line. He wouldn't waive all of the charges for whatever reason and I said I'd have to think about it. On the 26th(my cycle ended on the 27th) I called and cancelled one line that's out of contract and also told the rep of the problems I've been having the past 3 months. He gave me a courtesy credit of $100. On the 27th, I decided that the frustration was not worth the 10 month wait until the last contract ended and I was going to cancel. I asked when doing so what I would have to pay, and after reviewing the notes, I was told it was $50/line. I cancelled 2 of them and kept the third. He wants to keep Cingular because a lot of his friends are on it. He hardly uses it...

Online should be ok, especially if they were able to access the notes from before.

I called today reguarding this. I was told that they could only give me $100 credit and not $200. Reason is because the memo says he'd only waive $100. I'm not sure of the wording of it, but when I spoke to him, he said $100/line. I also called back about 5 other times and everyone told me that they were going to waive $100/line in ETFs. They're trying to get ahold of the guy and he's going to call me back. Guess I should have recorded some of these conversations.

Still waiting on my response from the email I sent them. It says within 1 business day, but it's usually more like 3.

Not sure what happened. I checked my account a few hours ago and it was about $225 less. Either they got ahold of the guy and credited it or they fixed it with my email. Haven't gotten a response on the email, so I'm assuming the former. Cingular's not so bad after all.
