Testing out Cingular (Newbie Question)

I have drank Verizon cool-aid for years but recently Verizon phones and customer service has taken a nose dive. I have a LG VX8100 and its crap. Verizon refuses to do anything for me so I started a Cingular account and have the RAZR V3 black. I have 30 days to decide to move to Cingular or stay with Verizon. Things have been well with this phone no dropped calls better sound then my Verizon phone. However I noticed in these forums there is an update to the software for the RAZR so I tried to get it at the Cingular store where I got the phone. I was told they don't update software. Is this accurate. How does one get an update if Cingular doesn't upgrade them for their customers? Any help would be appreciated.

you'd have to do it yourself. easy to do if you know what you are doing. Motorola is the only other "authorized" person to do this, but they won't most likely

Is there any instructions on how to do this?

www.motomodders.net

keep in mind, doing this technically voids your warranty.

OR...

you could see if another store has the new software version and return the phone there for a new one. be advised, you are only allowed one return in the 30 days, so if you do this, you are now a cingular customer for the length of your contract.

WHAT??? 😲 Can someone confirm this? I was not aware of this. 😕 I thought customers could change as many times they wished (in their 30 days)

unfortunately that is correct, however it is done to keep people from abusing the policy i guess. people in the past would exchange too much and then the company would lose money on the returned handsets. funny though cause nothing on the receipt that i have seen states 1 exchange only with 30 days.........

It is printed on the return policy that is (or should be) posted in stores.

If the store has the new RAZR ask to exchange your handset under the 30 day Buyers Remorse.

But then he is stuck with his contract for 2 years. He cannot return the second RAZR if he decided to not keep the service.

Sure he could.

The policy states two things.

a) you can cancel for any reason within 30 days, period.

b) you can exchange your handset once within 30 days for a different model

The latter is to prevent people from trying out 4 or 5 different handsets. It does not prevent you from cancelling. Anyone who says otherwise is mistaken. Customer care (who is responsible for cancelling your service) simply verifies the handset was returned to the store if you wish to cancel. They do not care how many times something was exchanged.
