I ordered a Nokia 6102 on 10/28 to learn the next day that they are on backorder. Why would the promote the phone so highly on the website when they don't have any?
And any Cingular insiders know when more will be available?

no i work for cingy and have answered the same question all day they are on back order and it could be 2-3 weeks
...
I have had a nokia 6102 for 2 weeks now and its a great phone. I dont understand what all the fuss is about. The menu setup is a little different than normal nokia phones more like the LG or MOTO
...
We have been told they will be shipping to stores on 11/3. that date was dependant upon Nokia fulfilling orders.

would the stores be diff from what we get told here at the call centers?

I called to check on my order and I got a hold of someone today that processed my order on the spot and said it would be shipped out tomorrow (Thursday 11/03). They billed my account for the phone. I used a CC for the first order. Now when I check my order status by phone number, there are two pending orders. I figure the other will be cancelled. If not I guess I'll just refuse shipment of the other.

If you end up with 2 orders, don't be ticked off. You basically just said that you were to lazy to let us know that you have made 2 and don't need one of them. I love people like you. I have dealt with them all day today. You blame whomever is around for issues that don't pertain to them. The 6102 being on backorder was not our fault.

Whoa, whoa, easy tadams. Let's not make accusations or assumptions until you have the facts.
Here is what I know:
1. I ordered the phone on 10/28
2. The phone was on backorder as of 10/29 (maybe earlier)
3. I made a call today (11/02) to check status of my order
4. The CS rep volunteered to process the order.
5. Instead of processing my original order, a new order was processed
6. I know have two orders. (Which if I get both, I won't be "ticked off", I just didn't want to have to deal with sending a phone back and contacting the people necessary to make sure I wasn't double charged)
I am not sure who you are refering to when you say "our" but you better be darn sure that it is Cingluar's fault for advertising an item they don't ...

Garb,
Cingular is in a tough position as are all of the cell service providers: they are the mercy of the device manufacturer.
If Nokia, HTC, Motorola, Siemens, LG, Samsung, etc say that they will x number of units available starting 11/1 and then make x-1 numbers, Cingular, Verizon and Sprint are stuck with having millions in print, tv and radio ads out there promising a unit by a particular date, based upon a promise not fulfilled by the unit maker.
Tough to pull ads that up until the truck pulls up to your door, you have ZERO idea that you were going to short on. Tough to pull ads back from WSJ, NYTimes, WashingtonPost, Detroit FreePress, Atlanta Journal, Dallas Times, LATimes, etc...after you have made the committment and received c...

I read your issue so I obviously didn't jump to any conclusions. I stand by my post the same. So now someone who wants a 6102 may not get one because they gave you two. The whole point is that you don't care about making anyones job or life easier, but you want everyone to bend for you. Im sick of it. Im sick of going out of my way for customers and just people in general and in turn there are more and more people like you.
I second sigmamason's post. Its not near as easy as it seems. Cingular wants people to know about the products, but they will not always be available. ALL companies go thru this, not just Cingular or cell phone companies in general. How many times do you see an ad pulled because a product is on backorder??? ...

I didn't ask anyone to bend for me. All I did was call CS to check the status of the order. And all she had to do was give me the status even if it was "I don't know when the phone will be in." She VOLUNTEERED to process the order.
Maybe I should have made myself clear, the ad I was referring to was on the the web site home page that said: "Web offer only, Nokia's first flip phone only 39.99." or something along those lines. It is very easy to switch out that web image to a different one. I never said anything about print ads or tv commercials.
Listen, you are making a much bigger deal out of this than I ever intended. Initially, I came here to ask a couple simple questions: "Why Cingular would continue to run a ad on their homepage wh...

And I also apologise for being a bit rude. It honestly is just a bit aggravating when someone notices that something is wrong and they don't want to fix it. I am in a bit of a sour mood today so I am sorry that some of it came out to you on my post.
Good Luck with your 6102 when you get it. Great phone. Nokia is the best!

Web offer only isn't an advertisment. It's a posting about a phone on a cell phone site. Does this mean when we are out of stock on a phone in a store, we need to take the display down? No, it means we're out of stock and you can choose to wait until it comes in, or pick something else.
It's like saying you went to mcdonalds and the menu on the wall has chicken mcnuggets on it, but they are out... are they supposed to pull down the menu until they come in?
...
Unbelieveable.
You ordered something online and it was delayed for a day yet it is just a big hassle.
That happens all the time with my Amazon.com orders or SonyStyle orders but it don't freak out.
If you want it in hand why not just go to a store?

You guys need to quit reading tone into posts. All I was doing was updating my situation. I was not freaking out. I just curious to the status of my order and letting you all know.
