GSM in Destin, Florida??

Does anyone know if GSM up and running in Destin, FL?

If yes, is it Cingular's own towers?

I am using a Motorola V400 but my rate plan is still the old Nation Preferred that I got with my TDMA phone. (I have certain reasons not to switch yet.)

I was told since I still have the Nation Preferred Plan, I might get charged roaming in certain parts of the country if my phone goes to "Cingular Extend". I assume this means the phone is using a carrier that doesn't have an agreement with Cingular.

Does anyone know if I will be charged for roaming or not in Destin, FL?

Thanks.

Wherever your phone works is where you have GSM coverage. If your phone doesn't work in a certain area, that means GSM is not available there yet. I work for Cingular in Texas, and if you're on a TDMA plan with a GSM phone, it should work okay. But if your coverage area includes an area where GSM is not available, then it won't work there, regardless. And yes, you will get charged roaming when you get "Cingular Extend". Get off that horrible Preferred Nation any way you can. 😁

I'm actually in Texas and I don't have any trouble using my GSM phone with the Nation Preferred Plan. It has never gone to "Cingular Extended".

What would happen if I'm using a GAIT phone with the Nation Preferred Plan? The GAIT phone is programmed to search for GSM signal first before TDMA. Assuming Destin, FL has Cingular TDMA and not GSM, would it use a non-Cingular GSM tower or would it go to Cingular TDMA since the GSM is not Cingular?

I'm curious. If the GAIT phone user doesn't get charged roaming on another carrier's GSM system, then I should be okay using my GSM only phone in that same area, since we are both on the same Preferred Nation Plan, right?
