Whats the deal here? I have searched and searched...some say there is no differance some say there is a huge differance. I am going to get either the treo or the blackberry 7100. I will be using it with email and web browsing. I need to know what plan is better and why it is better.

with the treo, you get PDA connect - 39.99 with a voice plan for unlimited data and free xpress mail

with the blackberry, you get 44.99 blackbeyy package (with a voice plan) for unlimted email and internet (39.99 for 4MB usage)

if anyone tells you that you can get anything different, they are doing so against company rules. those are the only packages "allowed" on those devices.

data connect is used with PCMCIA cards or when tethering your phone to a PC for internet use.

Media net is used on phone-centric devices and smartphones (mpx220, smt5600)

the only thing is that you are not "supposed" to have that package on the Treo. yes, it's possible, but the policy is to use the PDA connect feature. so if you get someone who does it, they are doing so against the "norm"

how does the Xpress mail work on the Treo? does it work like a blackberry or do you have to "go out" to the net and check ur mail manually?

Thanks.

and media net does not work on blackberries either... u need a blackberry package added on.

any rep who adds the 19.99 unl. media net onto those devices should know that not only can they get in trouble for it, but the customer's device will not work properly.

pda connect and blackberry connect are provisioned specifically for those devices.

No, in order to get full internet browsing on your treo you would have to get PDA connect. Media Net is nothing more than WAP -- mobile web.

Dependent upon the phone (Nokia 6682, Audiovox SMT5600, etc) you can utilize limited web experience. Pictures, flash sites, etc.
I utilize both the MediaNet portal and Opera on my 6682 all the time.
I have used the portal to surf "regular" site that are more than wap or html links on my fmr girlfriends treo also...

Have fun getting your full internet browsing on your "trio" with Media Net until Cingular figures out what you are doing due to the high amount of data you are using on Media Net and contacts you to tell you that you must add PDA connect for full internet browsing from your PDA. That, my friend, happened to the owner of my company.

Exactly, when they see your high usage, and check your account. You'll see. It will work for a while, but you will have to switch to a pda plan. And they rep will have to deal with the company and explain why they did this. Not a pretty sight as they are de-frauding the co out of 20.00 a month.. doesn't seem like alot until you add it up. Not to mention the royalty payments that treo isn't getting. It will catch up with you and hopfully, you won't have to foot the high data bill when they reconcile your acct vs data usage.
