Wow....all this technology. I am excited about having PTT capabilities, using the high speed 3G UMTS/HSDPA network, listening to/downoloading MP3's and snapping pix with at least a 1.3MP camera. Unfortunetly the way Cingular is going....I need to have a seperate handset to enjoy all of these features. The first 2 PTT phones are BORING and thats all they do...no camera...no NOTHING. All I am saying is all these cool features need to be on EACH handset. Cingular....get it together. Your customers want to experience all of this great technology, but at the current moment you would have to own at least 4 handsets to utilize all the modern marvels available. Any comments?
I do not agree. P...

One thing that Cingular can't control is how soon the suppliers can make a handset that lives to all the specs.
In some cases, existing camera technology may be incompatible with UMTS/HSDPA radio tech. Or the Bluetooth radio may not work with the Camera tech.
I am sure that all the suppliers are working to come up handsets that support the specs that Cingular has, but realize that this is the first round of equipment. Remember, the first Windows CE, Palm phone and Blackberry phone were all that until their R&D depts were able to crank it up and build out units...

Pictures are just data, if you can establish a channel for data, the channel doesn't care what data is carried.
I agree with the OP on this. UMTS has been out for a while on the ATT network, but nobody had phones out for it. Cingular has had HSDPA in the works for some time...yet there are not yet any phones out that support it....this is inexcuseable, IMHO. If cingular expects me to be stuck with a phone for the next two years, it better have all the bells and whistles...
I don't think that PTT is a big deal, but that is just me and my usage.
The manufacturers have to make the unit work according to whatever specs they get from Cinuglar.
Considering that pictures are treated as data, it shouldn't be that difficult, but then again there are memory requirements to consider also...
I don't make the rules, just used to for a telecom company and I remember being in those discussions from a finance manager viewpoint.

Read post very carefully, I wrote that it may be, I didn't say that it was.

Now, to say that features are not "financially" compatible is a whole other ball o' wax!!!
I will agree that there may be a financial component to the mess, in fact, I would wager it is about 99% financial when you hear someone say "that wi...
