COU PTT Lines

Anyone know what's going on with the PTT COU lines? We got our phones last night and they're active, but we can't use PTT yet. When are they supposed to go live with PTT for employees? Our demo/training equipment has been working for weeks, so we're a little confused as to why we can't connect. 😕

I'm in the Boston market. New Hampshire, specifically. We just got an email from our regional manager and aparently they aren't launching it for a few more days. Now we get to play the waiting game. The phone is great though, has anyone else gotten to play? I like mine, the display could be better and of course I wish it had a camera.

As far as i've heard, our entire market (Maine, Mass., New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island) is supposed to be launching for customers on the 17th but our COU lines are supposed to be active before that.

I've used the PTT training lines and it takes between 5-7 seconds to connect. It's pretty good. I had nextel and it wasn't that much faster. Pretty comparable. The phones are definitely better with cingular, though. The d357 is a great phone so far.

wait one second.. you are saying that it takes 5-7 seconds to connect, but you used nextel and it wasnt that much faster? the problem is, lol, nextel has a sub-second connection.. sub-second is faster then 5-7 seconds..

well, yea the phoens are better, however, with nextel all of the phones have ptt on it, but with cingular you have to buy specific phones to have ptt. that is a problem that i think might face them just like it faced verizon and sprint.

do you think many people will switch to cingular with this awful delay?

(let us be honest here)

when i had cingular my service wasnt that great..

remember, the ptt is on kodiak's platform which uses voice channels so if there are any problems with towers and the voice side, ...

yes. it's only an INITIAL connection. it you PTT someone with nextel, and they don't respond to the inital call in the first few seconds, what is the difference?

"not to mention their PTT product is crap itself."

17 million people tend to differ.

"yes. it's only an INITIAL connection. it you PTT someone with nextel, and they don't respond to the inital call in the first few seconds, what is the difference?"

lol.. you will find out in the matter of a second if the person is busy or not. this point is kinda a non-event and its pointless.

"which is an advantage if anything. since it uses voice, it allows customers to use the web while PTT'ing. you can also use call waiting while using it as well. my friend has a nextel phone through work, and do you know how many times i get that annoying "please wait while we locate the nextel subscriber" crap?"

call waiting with push to talk? lol. ver...

call waiting works.. we tested it to see what happened. if your ptting, and someone calls, you can switch back and forth, it also works the same way if you ptting someone and another one ptt to you, you can switch back and forth all day if you wanted. Thats one advantage i've noticed over placing calls..

The initial connection takes between 5-7 seconds, once connected there is virtually no delay. Once connected, it IS faster than nextel.

To be realistic, i'm not saying that this is going to drive people to cingular, but I believe that if they play their cards right and learn from VZW and Sprint's mistakes, they just might be successful with this.

From everything I hear, we are supposed to have almost ALL PTT phones by Q2 2006.

I'd like to see it work, but I'm not setting high expectations yet.

we got ours a few days ago, and the manager had to activate them. we're using the hell out of it to see if we encounter any bumps.
