HSDPA not for Macs?

As a Cingular Agent I'm extremely excited about our upcoming UMTS and HSDPA. As a Mac lover I'm sad that companies still don't support them.

Does anyone currently using a Cingular Data Card use it on a Mac?

Mac users have a very small % of the computer market. i believe there are more Linux users than Mac. I think Sierra would play the percentages with their driver development

I think they're slightly ahead of Linux currently, but I am a huge fan of Linux too. The software problems wont be a problem when macs go to IBM chips next year anyway... maybe I'll just wait.

I dont think IBM chips were so much the problem as it was Steve Jobs making unrealistic demands.

I personally don't count "Mobile processors that don't suck compared to the rest of the industry" as an unrealistic demand. The G4 was a great processor when it was introduced. But it's gotten VERY long in the tooth.

the G4 wasnt made by IBM, it was made by freescale. Actually IBM has several G5 processors that uses less power and wattage than a pentium M. Steve just didnt wanna wait. He could have stayed w/ both PowerPC and x86 processors, but steve isnt the brightest anymroe

Freescale used to be a part of Motorola. The PPC family of chips was developed by IBM and Moto together. The G4 was being produced by Freescale after they spun off from Moto. The G5 was/is not practical for laptop use at all. It draws far too much power and runs too hot. Or it runs slower than the current G4's if clocked down enough to make it usable for portable applications. IBM didn't feel like devoting the resources necessary to make a practical laptop version of the G5. As for steve not wanting to wait, I don't blame him. I was tired of waiting too. IBM was no longer cutting it so steve did the only thing possible to keep up.

Trying to support both PPC and x86 would be foolish. From a developers standpoint it would be difficult and a...

U gotta keep up with the news man:

thats 13 watts @ 1.4 Ghz and 16 watts @ 1.6 Ghz, either one would perform much better than the G4's. Apple wanted an extremely cheap bargin on Power PC processors, ibm refused, Intel moved in with large discounts just as the did w/ dell.

As far as supporting both PPC and x86, OSX has been both x86 and PPC compatible since the begining. Apple even said themselves that they will support both platforms while they transistion to Intel processors (a time period of 2-3 years). Steve Jobs just got too impatient. The worst thing is that Intel processors are way behind AMD's in both heat and processing power. Both were reasons they claim that caused them...
