I have nothing concrete. There are a couple potential issues:

1. Inventory - ROKR launch was a little muffed since it was announced as "available" yet no stores had received the product. I would speculate they want to avoid that issue. Some stores have them, many don't. I have it on good word it is a supplier issue as the first batch to Cingular is already gone (both Samsung and LG).

2. Testing - Verizon and Sprint laid the groundwork for how to flop a PTT launch. It wasn't very good. Cingular has a significant number of these units on the ground and they want to ensure all is good.

3. Coverage - In a map sent out pre-launch (thanks sources hehe) it showed many "partner" coverage areas as "future" areas. Cingular currently ...

Last I checked, this is public forum, so you can't resonably expect that only the person you want will answer, especially at the start of a thread...

Considering I have seen hard info on this last subject I think it and #1 are combined a good reason it is not out. That would also confirm it is not a Cingular issue but a partner issue (roaming and equipment). As Steve Sitton always would say, "We may be last to the dance, but we will always be the best dressed".

Also, this would reveal to people how much of cingu...

most of the coverage is cingular's own from what i understand. if i'm correct they don't have t-mobile as a roaming partner anymore and dobson and us cellular are the only two gsm options left(besides maybe a few rinky dink mom and pops tower holders). and they don't provide that much coverage.

The majority of Cingular's roaming is between the west coast states, and the midwest states... and who the hell lives out there anyways?

well...

I live there...and a couple of million others in Utah...and a couple million in Nevada....and a million or so in Wyoming; I was actually alluding to a trip I took to wymoing this year. The entire time I was in Wyoming, my phone showed "midwest wireless" or something like that; clearly not Cingular coverage; although at the time, my phone still read ATT Wireless when at home....oddly enough, my wife's phones switched to displaying "cingular wireless" at least a month before mine did...

anyway, my .02 worth... as usual, in the currency of your choice...

You apparently did not get the point of my post. Let me break it down "No **** its roaming -- who cares" BTW You do realize those three states equal the population of just three of Texas's major cities?

I do understand that there's not an enourmous population in Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho put together. That, however, is not the point.

I do understand the thrust of your message as well. But that is still not the point.

The point is this: if you are "roaming", and don't get PTT service, then in a large area (those four states represent more AREA than Texas, if not more population) you will be able to make and receive calls, which you as a customer pretty much expect. (wait, ...

I guess I'm just easily offended 😈

Actually, I was reacting those who were acting miffed that someone else would have the nerve to respond to a question directed at "tex"; if you REALLY want an answer just from him (her? I guess I don't really know for sure...) that's what PM & emails are for.

I was told 2-4 days 2 days ago. I was also told (internal comm) that it would be released mkt by mkt as the engineers ok'd the network to be able to handle it.

I assume they are pushing for a black friday launch to drive cust into the stores 🙂
