Shoppers prefer Wal-Mart, RadioShack over carrier stores
Nov 18, 2005
PORT WASHINGTON, New York-Big-box retailers deliver a better shopping experience for mobile phone users than wireless operators do through their own branded outlets, according to a study from The NPD Group.
The survey of 2,100 consumers found that while 68 percent of all mobile phone and wireless service purchases were made at retail stores, RadioShack Corp. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. provided the best overall shopping experience. Only 24 percent of recent purchasers described their experience as good or excellent.

It should have been implied since Rat Shack sells only VeriZon and Sprint service.

That is incorrect. Radio Shack is a nationwide company. They offer Cingular and others in stores where Verizon is unavailable.

I'm only going on what I've seen at Rat Shacks in my area. I've never seen them market anything other than Sprint and VeriZon here. Before they had VeriZon they only had Sprint PCS (when they were calling themselves that.)

Before you guys fall all over yourselves gloating. You do realize one can get phones MUCH cheaper outside the corporate stores. A Razor for $69 dollars vs what ? Money is talking here more then shopping experience. I would say the "New Corvette I purchased for $20,000 at Costco was a better shopping exerience then the $50,000 one at the Chevy dealership".

Wal Mart is selling phones cheaper then Cingular.
Radio Shack is selling phones for less then Verizon/ There's your shopping experience in a nutshell. 🤣

Upset that Verizon didn't even get mentioned? Or maybe your mad that Radio Shack was named the best.

You're off base with your comments. The article said that...

The article was stating that Cingular and Nextel's corporate stores offer the best experience. Radio Shack and Wal-Mart were an entirely different idea within the article. Perhaps you just misread it...

This is really funny considering that the teenagers who usually staff Rat Shack generally know little to nothing about cellular service. Radio shack is a place you go to get parts. It's not where anyone who's serious about getting service goes. Same goes for Wally World.

So what that a teenager might work there. According to the survey, they scored the best so apparently there are some knowledgeable teenagers out there.

Surveys are only as good as you give them credit for. T-Mobile makes big of the fact that they got high JD Powers marks. Others discount that entirely. People can believe whatever statistic they wish. However, reality is very different from supposed "surveys."

I tend to disagree about calling radio shack rat shack. All radio shack's are not the same. Maybe you went to one who did not treat you right but that does not represent the whole company. We not only sell parts but many other things including cell phones. Please don't give us a bad name just because of a few stores.

I am a radio shack employee and have had many satisfied customers.

Perhaps they have finally changed. Their reputation was that the personnel were *not* knowledgeable since most of the staff was earning minimum wage with commissions.

Since VZW is not mantioned in the article I gather that they were omitted from the survey in order to let another carrier come out on top. The link gave me an error so I could not read anymore than was posted in the inital post though.

You are, of course, wrong. Why can't you believe that Verizon was just "middle of the road" in a survey? They were, in no way, omitted. They were just not the best and not the worst.
