Hello Moto

Nov 21, 2005, 2:02 PM
The USAToday report misquoted Ed Whiticre. The name is not changing.

Via its Cingular relationship, the new AT&T is able to deliver a range of wireless voice and data services to customers across the United States and globally. Cingular is the nation's largest U.S. wireless carrier, with 52.3 million subscribers and spectrum in 49 states. Further, the Cingular relationship expands the new AT&T's ability to provide a range of innovative and flexible solutions that integrate wireless and wireline communications.

That site says nothing about whether the Cingular name will be changed or not. It simply says things about the "Cingular Relationship."

There is no proof there that Ed Whitacre was quoted wrong. 🙄

I think the SBC to ATT name change is something that will be pretty quick. If Cingy changes their name it'll be a ways down the road... my guess would be late next year.

OK, considering those "4" companies you are speaking of are actually only 2, we see how great you are in figuring this out.

Don't you think, if the USA today report was false, you would find retractions all over the internet??? Whether it be AT&T directly, BLS, or USA Today??? Think about it. 😁

Yes, but if phonescoop quotes usatoday and usatoday is wrong, then two sources are incorrect equally... both share the same responsibility. and if cingular was going to take on the name, you would see sbc and cingular saying something about it in THIER news release...

AT&T will bundle wireless with wireline on bills. The customer will only get a bill from them, not Cingular. Service is still Cingular, just AT&T is taking credit for it. Like SBC and BLS have already been doing for years.

That isn't what he was quoted as saying. And, like I said before, there would be a million retractions (from everyone that published it) regarding the renaming of Cingular if it was indeed false.

Whitacre said AT&T might still use the Cingular name in some markets. But the overall plan, he said, is to use the AT&T name to market all the company's products — local, long-distance, wireless, data and video.

He conceded that the move could strain AT&T's relationship with BellSouth. The two carriers have worked to promote Cingular as a national brand. But for now at least, BellSouth isn't resisting.

I just got an email from our account Exec. Where it stands for now is no name change. The name change will only affect some affiliates that sell out of call centers. They will sell ATT products.

Retail locations will be keeping the Cingular brand name.

Wireless Operators. The new AT&T wholesale organization offers services that meet unique requirements of wireless operators, from traditional voice applications to high-capacity data applications over a secure next-generation network.

You missed this in that page you posted... it clearly says WIRELESS OPERATORS. and AT&T WHOLESALE. that means to me, they will sell att as a wireless brand. maybe not rebranding the whole company, but it will resurect the att wireless brand....
