I dont think they wrongly quotes Whitacre TWICE

cingularguy558

"Whitacre said AT&T might still use the Cingular name in some markets. But the overall plan, he said, is to use the AT&T name to market all the company's products — local, long-distance, wireless, data and video."

"Asked if the company planned to drop the Cingular name in favor of the AT&T brand, Whitacre said, "Yes, we do."

Call me crazy but since a name change is formally addressed twice(thats right not ONCE but TWICE)I think i might happen

Any Other Opinions

Whitacre works for SBC.

My account exec who works for Cingular said some affiliates that sell out of call centers will sell ATT products. Stores will be keeping the Cingular brand name.

so much for the common service experience...

i think within the next year, bellsouth's share in cingy will be forcefully taken over and the rebranding will occur.

Or ATT will just buy BellSouth all together.

thats another option, but I think the FCC would have a little to say about that... they would control to much of the country, and they'd be forced to show competition where there is really none at this moment.

FYI, SBC is now AT&T!!!! SBC bought out AT&T and took the AT&T name. They are trading under the symbol "T". SBC no longer exists. Therefore it would be AT&T buying out Bellsouth, in his senario.

no that is true, but they didnt formaly change anything yet. ie the stock ticker or any of that stuff. that is why i am saying it would be SBC, not ATT as of yet.

but in his scenario that would make sense that is if ATT comes back on the dow and actually takes place.

he is correct though..

and i know sbc bought out ATT.

on the csp (internal site) it clearly says cingular will not be renamed. It does say however, that att will bundle service under their own name, and they will recieve a bill from att (sbc), but the customer will be added to cingular's bottom line figures.

No it would not. It would be AT&T buying out Bellsouth. SBC bought AT&T and adopted AT&T's name and ticker symbol. SBC no longer exists. It would be AT&T buying out BLS if that happens.

sbc does exist.. the ticket symbol SBC still exists and it will be called SBC until the change is in place..

so my original point would still be correct that is until they would offically change the name and the stock symbol. (they havnt yet)

The name change was official on October 27th.
The new logo was official on November 21st.
The ticker symbol will change on December 1st.

By name, SBC was gone yesterday. By ticker symbol, they will no longer exist on 12/1. Either way, they don't exist.

the ticker does exist. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=sbc

as soon as it gets delisted then T takes over then it will be refered to as ATT corp, but until then it is not..

SBC isnt gone as mentioned above the ticker still exists as well as the sbc.com website. (which is a non issue= the website)

until the SBC ticker is gone, it still exists.

after that date that you have mentioned then SBC doesnt exist.

1) They didn't misquote Whiteacre, he just didn't quite know what he was talking about. According to Stan Sigman, in an email response to every Cingular employee yesterday, the Cingular brand is NOT going away, they've simply spent too much money on consolidating the company to rebrand again. They might in the future, but certainly not any sooner than *multiple* years from now. Whiteacre may be in charge of AT&T/former SBC, but he doesn't necessarily speak for Cingular. What he referred to for wireless service was the SBC bundled wireless services. Cingular/SBC wireless (for those folks who have SBC/AT&T combined services) will now have AT&T wirelss. This is NOT a revival of the brand currently existing as Cingular Blue. They may start...
