Repair Question

Hey,
Quick question. I purchased a Black Razr in July from Cingular. Everything has been great with the phone except my outer display stopped working, due to getting pressed hard whilst in my pocket, but no superficial damage. How should I go about getting my phone fixed? Do I take into my local Cingular store or do I send it to Motorola directly? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

You can try and make a warranty exchange on the phone, in which they will send you out a refurbished razr in place of that one, however if they see any physical damage to the phone they will charge you for the equipment. Your best bet is tomake an insurance claim (that is, if you have insurance of course). If your not eligible for upgrade and don't have insurance, and feel that you may be charged for the equipment via warranty exchange, then you will have to pay full retail cost for it if you purchase another via Cingular. However, you'll be amazed as to what you can find on ebay 😉

Thanks for your help. The only damage is a very small chip at the top of the glass of the screen. It was there for a long while before the outer screen crapped out. Do you think they would charge me for that?

Unfortunately, if there is ANY physical damage to the phone, you will be charged. Warranty Exchange only excepts phones that are in good condtion with no physical or water damage. When did you say you got the phone again?

Not true. I have sent phones back with scratches and nicks on them and they didn't charge me.

Good response. This reminds me of an idiotic and whiny customer I spoke with a while ago. She first was asking about sending her phone in repair which she said wasn't working anymore (keys not working). I first explained to her the upgrade options she had and then I explained to her the exchange process before attempting to transfer her to XBM -- how the customer must provide a credit card number as security for the exchange and how we would charge the card in the event we find any damage to the phone being returned like water damage after sending out our replacement. She said "well just a hypothetical but what if they discover the phone has some water damage, can they just apply my insurance since I have it." I said "no, you can file a...

This is the biggest crock of bull $hit I have ever heard. I have exchanged my RAZR through XBM twice and my Nokia 4 times (before they gave me a SE S710a) and NEVER had to provide a credit card number. They simply told me that if my phone was found to be out of warranty, they would bill my account for the amount of the phone. 🙄

It's no wonder customers get pissed off. Reps can't even understand their own policies. 🙄

call 1-800-motorola. They'll find the nearest authorized motorola repair place. Call and ask how much to replace the lcd screen.
