I still have an ATT account, but my nokia 3200 just broke. I lost ALL info and the phone will only power up and say "selected memory empty", does this mean that all my info is really gone??I called 611(from another mobile) and got c.s. and she said my was basically toast, and that I need to migrate to cingular, there isa nothing they can do. OK, so I call cingular and they have NO love for my company's corporate account and rate plan. I mean, that I am currently with 1400min, 7-7 talk, unlmtd night/wknd, m-m free, but the only plan they have for me is about 40.00$ mth more?? Not a too big of a deal but the phones they want to sell ALL suck!!So my questions are as follows. Is there any where in the US that will sell me unlocked phones at a rea...

EBay has plenty of unlocked phones. You might even be able to get GSM phone locked to ATT for very cheap.

Yes, check out ebay. They're usually cheaper than any of the actual .com stores in terms of used phones. Though you'd be surprised how much ATT phones are compared to unlocked ones, they run roughly the same. A lot of ATT people are looking to stay with them and just want a better phone. I ended up switching to Cingular since my contract is up in May w/ATT and my fiance and I aren't interested in TMobile and don't want to pay 70 a month for the family share on Verizon. Good luck...ebay is a good starting point. There are some really great newer ATT phones on there.

Might not be a bad idea at all to buy a unlocked phone. US phones suck for out of country travel even with GSM unless ofcoarse you have your phone unlocked. Ebay is where I have seen the best selection of unlocked GSM phones as far as pricing goes. I would still consider the option to move to the orange side(cingular). Right now for the holidays we have a few half way decent plans to choose from. 1500min for 49.99. Its a copy of the 1500min for 39.99 from T-Mobile but offers much better coverage. Just my 2 cents.

That phone doesnt have GSM 850 Mhz. You're outa luck if you travel to a place that has GSM 850 Mhz but not GSM 1900 Mhz.

untrue, the nokia 6170 for the US has 850/1800/1900mhz confirmed by nokia (euro has 900mhz)http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/6170/0, 2803,feat:1,00.html
the only thing it doesn't have is a "REAL" Bluetooth built in it has an adpater for it!??
but oh well its not that big of a deal.

Oh I didn't even know there was a US version.

Well I stand corrected then. What dealer did you get it from or was it straight from Nokia?

NO problem, but good look'n out tho.

I got it straight from Nokia, it was the best price around and fast shipping (I will get today??per fedex)
They offer a discount if YOU ask them and the rep is cool, I would say they are up in my top 10 company's to deal with I would highly recommend them everywhere else on the web was either a euro phone (900mhz) "slighty" used or much more dollars, etc.

In my experience having a foriegn phone here that doesnt run on 850 isnt usually a big problem anyways. 1900 should get the job done. Might be a few spots but for the most part its fine. You say your phone supports 850 anyways so your golden either way.
