Edge/GPRS

Ok I understand the basic concept of EDGE technology but how do you utilize this. What kind of plans are offered. Do I have to get a plan to use this or any hardware. If someone could fully explain this it would be great. Thank you.

no special plan is needed, you jusy need to have a phone (or PC card) that is EDGE capable. it just uses the same wireless internet plans that are offered currently (or pay per use).

Also, EDGE, like any wireless internet protocol, depends on proximity to the tower. With an EDGE-capable handset or data card,you will default to EDGE, if EDGE signal is weak, you will step to GPRS, and if that is not available, step to WAP. The effective range of EDGE is very good, but does not currently have the signal range of GPRS.
