Possible Newcomer To Cingular - Questions Regarding Service
So here are my questions:
1. Are there any former Verizon users now using Cingular that believe that Cingular's service is equ...

3. Ask your friends, family and co-workers about their service locally. No offense but anyone on here is completely un-credible when it comes to giving you local information in regards to "who sucks".
1. Same as 3
2. My former company had stores in Vegas and service Summerlin works fine. I would suggest buying a phone w/o contract and testing to see if it is indeed her phone. You can always return it or then upgrade and get the extra back from a contract discount. Verizon will also work fine for you in Vegas, but as you said you prefer Cingular handsets.
Enough said, Go with Verizon. I was with Cingular for many years and they have gone down hill NOT uphill since the merger. You want a fancy phone with bells and whistles or do you want a good phone with enough bells and whistles to get by that actually makes and receives phone calls?
Verizon is adding twice as many customers and losing less then HALF as many for a good reason.
You have an opportunity to go with the best for THE SAME MONEY! Why settle for mediocrity. Its not like Cingular is less expensive. And there is NO excuse why Cingular should have bad service on any phone anywhere in a large FLAT market like Las Vegas. Especially out there in Summerlin where there are...

I told him both Verizon and Cingular would be fine for him. I told him that based on HIS request of what HE THINKS are more likable phones he should try to see if the lack of coverage if a phone issue or a service issue. If it was a service issue he would have no problems returning said handset. He could even buy it from BEST BUY if he wanted.
Stop being a fool.

GSM phones are globally accepted by more people. No one will benefit in the end from people saying "oh just go to verizon, cingular won't ever get better." We are ...

I guess they are all "blindly going with another company". NO Cingular surely opened their eyes.
BTW There is nothing wrong with GSM. There is everything wrong with Cingular;s implementation of GSM and that makes all the difference.
Go with Verizon and check back with Cingular in a couple years. You may as well get the best for the same price as the worst. How often can you do that as a consumer?

[Cingular] signed up around 4.3 million and what 3.5 million left for a net add of 800K.Verizon had a net add of over 1.6 MILLION.
Verizon actually net added 1.9 million customers last qtr. But who's countin'? ๐
But until then the AT&T customers will be dropping like flies as the last of the AT&T 2 year agreements begin to expire. And every Cingular salesperson should be educated to minimalize the number that slip away.
Most of the Cingular people on this forum will admit that Cingular has some problems it needs to work out. But I will not sit here and watch Verizon lackeys nip at us. Just give it up. Verizon will never regain the number one customer hol...

And then you woke up!!!
The trend is your friend..(well not in this case). it looks preety bad. Wait until next quarter you will see you are slippslipping away. All those customers that put Cingular on top in shear numbers are leaving like rats from a sinking ship....

Everyone that has Verizon will go to hell? You are a true moron. ๐

I guess you are a stranger to email since you evidently don't understand that email does not translate well to communicate sarcasm. Eveyone loves a smartรยฅss.

100 million people worldwide use CDMA, and 1 BILLION people use GSM.
Actually, that ain't true. CDMA has closer to 300 million users worldwide. About 2/3 of those are CDMA2000 subscribers.

Also, while GSM is more popular overseas, CDMA is the more popular technology in the United States.

Radio Shack recently blamed their bad results on poor sales of Verizon phones and they're looking forward to better results when they begin carrying Cingular next year. Verizon made hay while the competition was in turmoil. Those days are over. I left Verizon because Cingular's network is actually better in D/F...

Far as "Verizon made hay while the competition was in turmoil, those days are over", hum, well, everyone's got a dream, I guess. Verizon's spanked Cing three quarters runnin' now, haven't heard anyone say this quarter'll be any diff'rent. Even Cingular's own CEO says he don' expect Cingular to be best in class 'til end of 2007. Sprint-Nextel? They're definitely in for some turmoil for awhile, they just merged.
Now there are definitely some bad things about Verizon, but overall consumers like what they see.. people who go with...

If he is an ATTWS guy they of course TDMA is possible.

Cingular has a return policy that lets you out of your contract in the first 30 days if you are dissatisfied with your service. Get out in the first 3 days and you aren't even liable for the activation fees. Each store may also have their own provisions for returns.
Verizon has a 15 day return policy and no provision for return of your activation fee as far as I know.
Take advantage of this and try out service in the areas you most frequently travel too. Make some calls to test service in your areas.
The clincher might be that Verizon was giving me an 18% discount for being a retired Foreign Service Officer with the State Department - does anyone have any knowledge on whether I can get Cingular to match this or to give me a similar type disocunt? If I stopped into a Cingular store - are they authorized to give various discounts?
Thanks

DOn't Bother. Not only do you have the best Wireless Carrier, but a sizable discount you can bet Cingular will not match.
