Possible Newcomer To Cingular - Questions Regarding Service

palermo22

Dec 15, 2005, 3:58 PM
My wife has had Cingular for a few years and where we live in Las Vegas she does not get great service - however, it's possible it could be her ancient Nokia. I was all set to go on a family plan on Verizon (always hearing about their great service) but the more I read about their new phones the more I am swayed not to go with them, however, if you read the Verizon boards they are convinced their service is the best and that Cingular (even with their great phones)sucks! So it appeared to me that one company (Verizon) had great service and bad phones - while the other (Cingular) had great phones but bad service.

So here are my questions:

1. Are there any former Verizon users now using Cingular that believe that Cingular's service is equ...

To answer your questions out of order

3. Ask your friends, family and co-workers about their service locally. No offense but anyone on here is completely un-credible when it comes to giving you local information in regards to "who sucks".

1. Same as 3

2. My former company had stores in Vegas and service Summerlin works fine. I would suggest buying a phone w/o contract and testing to see if it is indeed her phone. You can always return it or then upgrade and get the extra back from a contract discount. Verizon will also work fine for you in Vegas, but as you said you prefer Cingular handsets.

That's good advice but everyone near where I live have Verizon - they are satisfied with the service - but I guess I am more critical when it comes to phones.

Then I would say try out getting your wife a different phone. Cingular's policies allow for easy return.

Wireless is a friggin AGENT who SELLS Cingular not Verizon.

Enough said, Go with Verizon. I was with Cingular for many years and they have gone down hill NOT uphill since the merger. You want a fancy phone with bells and whistles or do you want a good phone with enough bells and whistles to get by that actually makes and receives phone calls?
Verizon is adding twice as many customers and losing less then HALF as many for a good reason.

You have an opportunity to go with the best for THE SAME MONEY! Why settle for mediocrity. Its not like Cingular is less expensive. And there is NO excuse why Cingular should have bad service on any phone anywhere in a large FLAT market like Las Vegas. Especially out there in Summerlin where there are...

Did you even read what I said? You are so bitter it is pathetic (oh no, nextel18 is rubbing off on me).

I told him both Verizon and Cingular would be fine for him. I told him that based on HIS request of what HE THINKS are more likable phones he should try to see if the lack of coverage if a phone issue or a service issue. If it was a service issue he would have no problems returning said handset. He could even buy it from BEST BUY if he wanted.

Stop being a fool.

Yeah, get a Verizon phone. A phone based off a technology that doesn't even match the rest of the world. Because of Verizon, the network in the united states is split in two. Half of which is the CDMA network, a network found in virtually no other countries in comparison to GSM. 100 million people worldwide use CDMA, and 1 BILLION people use GSM. It is their fault they created this split in the USA, if they had gone GSM the network in the united states would be FANTASTIC. But no, now we have this stupid decision to make. And Sprint, Alltel etc. follow in its footsteps.

GSM phones are globally accepted by more people. No one will benefit in the end from people saying "oh just go to verizon, cingular won't ever get better." We are ...

Yeah dont listen to me.isten the to 3.5 million that LEFT Cingular just last quarter. They signed up around 4.3 million and what 3.5 million left for a net add of 800K.Verizon had a net add of over 1.6 MILLION.

I guess they are all "blindly going with another company". NO Cingular surely opened their eyes.

BTW There is nothing wrong with GSM. There is everything wrong with Cingular;s implementation of GSM and that makes all the difference.

Go with Verizon and check back with Cingular in a couple years. You may as well get the best for the same price as the worst. How often can you do that as a consumer?

And every day I try to save us from the AT&T customer's ignorance when they come out of the Verizon store, asking me for their account number. If we could just market the fact that an AT&T customer does not get all the advantages that an Orange one gets, maybe it wouldn't be so confusing.

But until then the AT&T customers will be dropping like flies as the last of the AT&T 2 year agreements begin to expire. And every Cingular salesperson should be educated to minimalize the number that slip away.

Most of the Cingular people on this forum will admit that Cingular has some problems it needs to work out. But I will not sit here and watch Verizon lackeys nip at us. Just give it up. Verizon will never regain the number one customer hol...

Actually, that ain't true. CDMA has closer to 300 million users worldwide. About 2/3 of those are CDMA2000 subscribers.

Also, while GSM is more popular overseas, CDMA is the more popular technology in the United States.

Radio Shack recently blamed their bad results on poor sales of Verizon phones and they're looking forward to better results when they begin carrying Cingular next year. Verizon made hay while the competition was in turmoil. Those days are over. I left Verizon because Cingular's network is actually better in D/F...

I don' know bro.. the fact that Verizon an' Radio Shack are no longer doin' business as of Jan 1 makes Verizon an awfully convenient scapegoat for RS to use. Does make me wonder 'bout RS's story on their results.

Far as "Verizon made hay while the competition was in turmoil, those days are over", hum, well, everyone's got a dream, I guess. Verizon's spanked Cing three quarters runnin' now, haven't heard anyone say this quarter'll be any diff'rent. Even Cingular's own CEO says he don' expect Cingular to be best in class 'til end of 2007. Sprint-Nextel? They're definitely in for some turmoil for awhile, they just merged.

Now there are definitely some bad things about Verizon, but overall consumers like what they see.. people who go with...

Sounds like your wife needs an upgrade! She may still be in a TDMA phone, which could explain some of the poor reception. Go into a local store to check about it. Also, you sound like a smart man so I am sure that you will know to ignore Ten and his biast comments.

I realize that this site plays to many individuals who have their own agenda - which is why I take most of the advice with a grain of salt. Since I thought I would always gear myself towards Verizon (mainly because my sister and sister-in-law both have Verizon - not where I live: east coast and west coast) I have only paid attention to the Verizon threads - of course over there Cingular is the bad guy and Verizon can do no wrong; however, each time they introduce a new phone it seems to get slammed by the reviewers. Therefore, I wanted to come over here just to see what the Cingular people had to say - and whether anyone could intelligently defend Cingular's service and whether it was on par with Verizon.

If he (she) has always been Cingular (or formerly Nevada Bell Wireless) she is GSM. That market has been GSM since launch.

If he is an ATTWS guy they of course TDMA is possible.

Good luck palermo22.

U should be ok but it might be something to look into and confirm before you take up cingular. Its true as a employee for cingular I can attest that there network is a bit better right now, us being #2. Its also true that our phones usually are more interesting then theres. Most people I think wouldnt notice the difference in Networks and its usually in very rural areas where verizon shines a bit better. As far as flaming on these boards I notice alot of verizon fan boi's flaming cingular forums on this site. IM not sure if its all sites or just the group on these forums because I no that cingular peeps dont seem to flame them half as bad. Either way weither it cingular flamers or verizon flamers I would stick to the facts and dismiss people...

Sorry, I had to use all caps to get your attention.

Cingular has a return policy that lets you out of your contract in the first 30 days if you are dissatisfied with your service. Get out in the first 3 days and you aren't even liable for the activation fees. Each store may also have their own provisions for returns.

Verizon has a 15 day return policy and no provision for return of your activation fee as far as I know.

Take advantage of this and try out service in the areas you most frequently travel too. Make some calls to test service in your areas.

Cingular will waive activation fees only if the service is cancelled in the first 3 days. Also, be aware that some dealers will require restocking fees for handsets or SIM cards, or both. Read all the small print and return policies before you sign anything.

If I stopped into a Cingular store - are they authorized to give various discounts?

Thanks
