if i were to unlock a phone and put it on cingulars network, would the phone display cingular???
I've seen some cingular customers who were sold an att phone or a tmobile phone from shady agents and their phones displayed the other carriers name even though they had our service. May be a stupid question, but i want my phone to say cingular and nothing else.

On most GSM phones the phone will read cingular. On the TDMA phones they would read the previous carrier. I think u should only unlock for cingular AT&T phones because those phones will have the 850 band.

I do know on the TDMA phones you use to be able to change the alpha tags if it did not display "Cingular" to say that or anything you wanted for that mater. I always changed the alpha tag with my nokia 5165i, Not sure but I would think the GSM would still have codes to where you can program the alpha tags. I would search the internet for changeing alpha tags for the phone you have.

all the GSM phones i have delt with Cingular, T-Mobile and AT&T that we have unlocked after you put in that Carrier's sim card it read that carriers name at the top of the phone.... we unlocked a 6610 from T-mobile and put it on Cingular's network and Cingular showed up after the SIM card was inserted.
