I'm thinking about switching from VZW to Cingular. The verizon service is excellent, but I hate their phones. Does anyone have experience with Cingular service in NYC and in long island? Any other thoughts?

thanks

Network head-to-head with Verizon in performance for overall reliability

Cingular's New York-New Jersey network has tied for the top ranking among wireless carriers in its market in Telephia drive test results conducted in October and November.

Recent Telephia rankings show the
New York-New Jersey network
has moved forward with our Strategic Imperative to "Build the Best Network."

Our network was dead even with Verizon in performance for overall reliability. Our accessibility and retainability metrics both exceeded 99 percent.

personally i think the service is great in the manhatten area. As long as you power cycle your phone every otherday. i can even get service on the undergraound A line at columbus cirlce. Just watch out what kind of phone you get. I am also an empoyee. We recently had a list come out stating the best phones for certain markets. IT listed the Moto v3, mpx220, nokia 6102 etc as being among the best for reception in NYC. Part of it is you get what you pay for to a point. hope that helps

Why does the service from Cingular in NYC vary with the type of phone you chose?

Thanks

Build quality of the transceiver. Any company has will have varying reception between phones. With VZW moto's are known to not have the best reception, while LG's are excellent on their network. It's completely opposite with cingular where LG's dont get very good reception and Motos get great reception. With cingular, Stick With Nokia, Motorla, And Sonyericsson and you should be fine. Those are typically the top 3 preformers for reception quality( here in california anyways).

an example also is the Lg 1300. they used a very poor antenna on it. So they offered customers a free upgraded antenna shortly afterlaunch due to complaints of reception. Then they came out with the 1300I as another fix. My friends on the save team also tell me fi a customer calls in to cancel just over this poor phone they were instucted to replace it without a contract lol. I have had just about ever y phone lately that cingular sells except the i-pac, and the newseries of PDAs so i would stick to the MOTO v3, BB7100G, nokia 6102.

I have service based out of Philly but live in NYC with a Nokia 6230. Overall, service is just fine but I do have glaring problems pop up with annoying frequency (quizzingly, no such problems when I'm in Philly). These range from unbearable static (yes, that does happen on my GSM phone) to having no audio at all to my GPRS being down for days on end. CS says that's b/c I have a Philly phone and I should switch to NY service. But that seems outrageous considering it's supposed to be a national network. I've had other friends from Philly have similar problems when visiting NYC and Washington, D.C.

That said, when I don't have these problems, the phone works fine. Great reception. And compared to what I've seen my friend deal with on V...

What are you smokin'??? Motorola phones are known to have the best signal on Verizon's network. Second to NONE!!!

As far as GSM networks, I have found moto to be VERY subpar (with the exception of the RAZR). Nokias and S...
