Service Disconnect

Any idea Cingulars shut off policy? I KNOW sprint shuts you down every chance they get and AT&T would wait months is you made arrangements. I'm getting conflicting reports from current Cingular customers...

What can I expect? shut offs if not paid within a week?!

Sorry to be the company a-hole here, and I know this is christmas, but it's a bill. It needs to be paid. There's about a two week grace period from due date till they start charging you late fees. Longer than two weeks is really pushing it for a late bill, as most people are paid every two weeks.

No, don't worry about being "the company a-hole". 🙂

I'm just signing over the Cingular and I want to know what to expect. Sprint actually has a policy in place that shuts your service off if you go over a certain dollar amount and people still use them!

Is there a specific amount of days used as company policy to determine when to disconnect service...just trying to be an informed consumer.

Thanks

Well, I couldn't tell you if there's a specific day as I'm not in billing, but I've seen customers a month past due who are still active. You can definitely stretch it two weeks past due without even getting any penalties.

Of all the things to know about someone's service you want to know how late you can be before disconnect?

No, we have no "balance checker" deal like Sprint's pre-paid or low credit plans. If you are approved you get a regular plan.

As far as "how late can I pay"? After the "late after" date they can disconnect you anytime. If times are tough then call them, don't just not pay and see what happens. They usually are willing to extend cut off times and help you avoid reconnect fees as long as it isn't habitual.

I'm guessing that it makes a difference on your payment history. If from the outset you cannot pay your bill on time you're more likely to get a quick disconnection of service. On the other hand if you one or two months (not in succession) you were late making payment they'd likely cut you some slack.

after the due date, you can be cut off anytime, usually though, just before the bill cycle is when it happens. If nothing else at all, call and let them know whats going on, they'll usually give you up to 2 wks to get straightened out on the past due amount, as long as you don't use it to often. You also have to be a customer for 6 months before it's even considered.

I have to agree with Ralph on this one. With cingular you can stretch out your late period for quit some time as I have a regular customer base which does so. I wouldnt reccommend it however because the late fee's will start accumulating.

I think it's obvious that paying bills on time is what should be done. Since I'm searching for a new plan, I like to know all the rules when I sign up. I have a friend right now cancelling with Sprint because they shut him off when his bill reaches a certain dollar amount. That has nothing to do with paying his bills on time because sometimes his bill hasn't reached his house yet.

I was looking for a real answer that the company goes by. I pay my bills our I wouldn't still have a phone after 6 years.

The normal word is that there is a five to ten day grace period on disconnection...late fees are charged immeadiatly if you go late, barring special circumstances. It is true that some folks have gotten away with not paying for a month or more, but those cases are rare. It all depends on how backed up collections is.

Nothing to worry about if you just pay the bill, why are you so eager to find out how far you can push it?

because i haven't signed up yet with cingy and i dont like surprises. you never know what can happen, but i like to know EVERYTHING before i sign up. Cingy is the only carrrier that makes you do a 2year contract so i need to check out everything. I have a family plan with 5 lines, which would mean 5 reconnect fees.

Number one, you shouldn't HAVE to do a two year contract...you can get one year contracts over the phone or at corporate stores. Of course, the phones come at higher premiums for that. Secondly, unless policies have changed recently, in a disconnection situation, only one disconnect fee is charged per account, not per line. This policy got enacted about six to nine months ago with Cingular.

You can get one year contracts at most all Cingular sales outlets, not just over the phone and at corporate stores.

I don't like to speak for noncorporate stores...big no-no in customer service as technically they can write whatever they want in their contracts. From what I've seen of you, texas, you're one of the good ones that seeks out the "common customer experience."

My only difference is one year agreements are $10 more than corporate stores and I do require a "Below Cost Agreement". I ask that a customer be required to pay back the difference between a no commitment price and their price if cancelled within 6 months.

Sounds fair considering you're not a corporate powerhouse who can afford any type of churn.

Cingy is not the only carrier that uses 2 year contracts for the best pricing on the phones. Actually, T-Mobile is the only carrier left that only has 1 year contracts. Everyone else has 2 year contracts, or at least an option for 1 or 2 years.

Ok the reason that Sprint has a spending limit on your friend is b/c his credit is not good enough for Sprint to offer him unlimited. THE REASON HIS CREDIT IS NOT GOOD IS B/C HE DOESNT PAY BILLS ON TIME......exactly what I said to begin with!
