Two V551 users in Dallas consistently dropping calls! What to do?

A friend and I both have V551's on Cingular and live in Dallas, TX. Both of us consistently have problems with dropped calls, regardless of who we're talking to, what time of day, day of week, or our current location in the Metroplex, and regardless of whether we're sitting still in one spot or driving around... and when we're talking to each other it's 10X worse! Between us we probably drop the call 5+ times during a 10 minute conversation, even with both of us sitting stationary in our homes with 4-5 bars signal strength!

I didn't have these excessive dropped call problems way back when with AT&T or with my old Nokia... so it's either the Motorola V551s or it's Cingular. I've read about other folks having call problems with the V551...

Get the RAZR or a Sony Ericsson. Honestly, I have been standing right next to someone that has a v551 and my RAZR had full signal and the 551 was fluctuating between 2 bars and "No Service." When I put his sim in my Sony Ericsson his signal was equal to mine on my RAZR, if not better.

Also, your problems may have something to do with the upgrading of the network to UMTS/HSDPA. I know that the Dallas area was one of the first to get the upgrade. I just don't know if the upgrade involves actually shutting a tower down completely or not. But, I am just speculating with that one.

Honestly, I don't think it is Cingular that is the problem. I am in a market that was all AT&T prior to the merger. The closest Cingular was to my market w...

Thanks for the input. I like the look of the RAZR, but am gunshy about getting another Motorola after this experience... a little less so, now, after reading your advice.

As far as GSM motorola's are concerned - they are normally horrible when it comes to signal strength. But the RAZR has been just as good as any Nokia I have ever had. Sony Ericsson is the only phones I have had that beat the RAZR in signal.

The V551 is one of the most problematic phones Cingular has ever had. Typically Motorola has the most issues because they are crap but this one is especially aweful. I have no idea why Cingular continues to do business with Motorola whatever money they are making from selling a ton of them cannot possibly fix the damaged reputation and lost customers.
