GAIT is going away. it was only a temporary offering, but with the GSM netowork growing to the size it will be by the end of the year, there is no need for GAIT.

I'm currently on the GAIT Plan (out of KC MO) so that I have coverage in SW Wisconsin (Baraboo, Reedsburg, Mauston,) where we travel frequently to visit relatives.

The current GSM Nation map shows no coverage in this area. Currently I believe Cingular is using Alltel's towers in this area, but I see nothing about GSM in Alltels future.
Anybody know if this area is going to be included in Cingulars coverage area in the near future?

If I was to jump to GSM Nation now for a lower price and more minutes, will I have to upgrade as they expand their coverage, or will I be grandfathered and always have coverage anywhere in future GSM coverage areas? I would need to move quickly, as the $10 second line goes away on June 20, 2004.

Thanks i...

first of all, in north carolina, we've extended the 9.99 add a line until july 31, i would assume that's nationally also. cingular does grandfather plans, and keep in mind that the nation gsm is getting more coverage every single day, cingular is constantly putting up towers, that is why they are getting rid of the gait plans, because, prolly by the end of the year or so, they will have almost the same all digital coverage, so there will be no real reason to keep the gait plans.

How can i find out where Cingular will be expanding their GSM coverage in the near future? Cingulars map shows future coverage area but says those are supposed to be complete this month..what about expansion for the rest of the year? I would love to swap to GSM so i could upgrade to a good phone like the SE T637 but in my area (Meridian, MS there is a big space of no service at all to the north and south of meridian in rural areas that i spend a lot of time working and dont want to be without service. THanks

after the end of june, cingular should release a new coverage map with other "future coverage" areas...also, you can always go to a cingular store and get them to look up your address on the mti map tool, it works great, and it is very detailed coverage.

well unfortunately there are no intelligent people that work at our local cingular store. In fact today is the last day that the service department is open for business so i guess from now on if any repairs have to be made to a phone it will have to be sent off(very annoying). ON the otherhand they were the only company in the area with a service department anyway so i guess this will jsut even things up a bit.

as for the coverage in Southwest WI hwy 151 should be covered by Aug 1st hwy 12 in baraboo by Oct 1st and hwy 14 to lacrosse by Oct 1st. but with the purchase of att that will give cingular full state licensing. these areas right know for gait phones aren't that good anyway. gait phones are the biggest pieces of junk i've ever sold. everyday we r2r about five a day of the 6340's and if sold the t62u it was returned with in 15 days and exchanged for the nokia.

GAIT was nice for the moment. We are finally phasing them out in my market. But I totally agree....what's the point in keeping them around with how quick GSM coverage is growing?!?!

It's for the poor saps who live in areas that haven't been overlayed with GSM yet.
