Lost phone - if I activate Lockline replacement, do I lose upgrade option with Cingular?

I lost my phone last week - just days before I was eligible to upgrade to a better phone with Cingular.

I started my contract in March, but a rep looked at the computer last month and said I was eligible for an upgrade on Jan 8.

I called Cingular and was put through to LockLine for an insurance replacement of a refurb Nokia 6620, which is what I originally had.

I'm hoping insurance replacement is a completely separate thing from upgrade eligibility, am I correct?

1. Did I do the right thing, or should I have gone to a Cingular store and tried to upgrade. I was in Puerto Rico at the time so my options were limited.

2. Is there any reason not to activate this phone I received tonight from LockLine?

If for some reason it wo...

if you are eligible for upgrade and you are planning on re-signing anyway, it is probably a waste of money to replace that phone through the insurance. It will not affect your eligibility, but it will be a random extra phone that you won't be using.

Now if you want an extra phone around, the replacement phone is your best bet because the deductible is much less than full retail.

I'm not sure about lock/line, but with asurion, there is only a 7 day period in which you are allowed to return a phone and get a refund. After 7 days, it is yours. Check with lock/line and see how much time you have.

Thanks for your reply.

Given that they've already sent the phone and it's nonreturnable, I guess it's moot.

I suppose I could always sell the old phone when I do upgrade. (Cingular 8125, where are you?.....)

Making an insurance claim does not affect your upgrade eligibility. If you have already made a claim, you are entitled to pay the $50.00 deductible. The only way you'd be able to return the phone is if it was DOA (dead on arrival). Either way, the 50.00 will still be there. I would suggest maybe selling it? You'll still be able to upgrade on January 8th, you'll just be stuck with 2 phones.
